Give it a fricking rest because you could NEVER do what he did as well as he did it. The greatest of calls in LSU HISTORY was by Hawthorne.

It is not occasional. People on here are far too young to remember all those great years of him calling athletic events at LSU. Every great sportscaster PBP guys mess up calls. Every one of them. People on here act like he was some sort of hack.

This. Jim Hawthorne was a legend. In his prime, he was one of the most distinguishable voices on radio. He had so much love and passion for LSU and you could hear it in his broadcasts. In the 80's, 90's, there may only be 5 televised games all season so you either had to go or listen to the radio call (or get old school Tigervision), so it was much more common than it is today to listen on the radio. Just like my dad used to brag on John Ferguson as being the "real voice of the Tigers", I'm doin the same for my generation with Jim.

While I never considered Jack Hunt to be anything more than borderline SEC talent whise, our defense was signigicantly better when he was on the field.
He called the plays on defense and was very good at having us in the best formation, if a change needed to be made, after making the pre snap read

That guy made a huge improvement between his junior and senior year. He was a beast his last year.
