I’ve watched a lot of college basketball this year, LSU is as talented as anyone, but…

We have one huge glaring weakness, and it’s post defense, I don’t think anyone who has watched this team will disagree with that.

Talent wise, scoring ability, leadership, experience, all of the other things that matter, we can hang in there with Gonzaga, Baylor, or any other top team IMO.

I hope someone steps up as that interior defender, it could be a fun year!

They can’t hang with Gonzaga, Baylor, Tennessee, etc.

Their weaknesses of rebounding and defense make them a 7-10 seed in the tourney. That’s who they are.

He was in foul trouble all day.

Hard to defense when that happens.

Every time we are close to landing a center they drop another article about Wade. Combine that with O’Neal being out and we’re really thin there.

Well that’s his own fault, have to be able to avoid fouling so much

our best players are young minus days. There is a long time between now and the tournament for them to grow and get better on d.

If we were to somehow have to play Iowa Garza would drop 50 by halftime

They would be a lot better with the guys they have if they would be more fundamentally sound. I saw one good block out on defense, watford sealed off Castleton and it was an easy rebound.

That’s what I mean though, I really think we are one good post defender/rebounder from being able to hang with all of those teams.

What you really mean to say is that Cam Thomas is young.

Watford is a sophomore but a very experienced one

Days is a very experienced Junior

Smart is a Junior who’s been starting for 3 years.

I’d say experience is actually a strength of ours

Playing on the road, early in the season, its difficult to know what is a foul.
Leblanc was playing aggressive without benefit of SEC knowledge.

It’s not just the post. It’s overall. They are terrible at stopping dribble penetration. They needlessly help when the shouldn’t. Leave their feet on a head fake 30 feet from the goal.

And the “diamond” half court press/trap is the worst shite I’ve ever seen. It literally takes two solid passes to beat for an easy layup. I’d love to see the opponent FG% stats when LSU employs that disaster. It’s basically just a gift layup to the opponent

I get what you’re saying, but I actually like the idea. Like you said 1/2 court defense is a big weakness of ours, trying to force the tempo and trap, create turnovers is a good strategy when that is the case. I imagine the goal is to try to force them into rushed shots or dumb passes that lead to turnovers. It’s a good strategy, we just haven’t executed it well yet

Will Wade's teams have all played their best ball towards the end of the season and it's unfortunate he has yet to have the opportunity to coach them in the Big Dance. I have no reason to believe this team won't be playing good ball by season's end too.

I totally agree. I mentioned some of the same stuff in another thread. That half arse trap and press they run is useless because of how ineffective it is. It seems there is no idea of the exact rotation that needs to take place and when/how to implement the trap and like you said, it leads to dunks/layups fir the opponent. I’d like to know the points given up versus points off turnover ratio. They are not fundamentally sound in a lot of areas. Not totally sure if that’s a lack of coaching, laziness of the players or both.

I’ve heard this team is the deepest Wade has had, but all I’m seeing is 4 points from the bench in the box score. Do we not have anyone that can come off the bench and score??

I agree. I'm not sure why they aren't playing Leblanc or O'Neal down low on interior defense. I thought that was supposed to be Leblanc's strength. O'Neal seems to play too far from the basket on both ends of the floor. He's an athletic 6'10". With our glaring weakness I'd like to see him just play some gritty defense and rebound down low. He could provide so much more value than he is doing on the wing.
