At this point I would still take the 96,97,98 Tigers They proved themselves, I think college baseball is down this year and we don't face Vandy
. Well actually the 98 team choked against USC.

They are good.
Maybe the best, but I'm not scarred.
Probably because I don't have to play against them.

The good thing so far about this year when the middle of the lineup has had an off night there are other bats in the lineup to pick us up. A lot less stressful when the same 2 or 3 guys don't have to come through every night in order to win. And the pitching and defense has been spot on. They are a fun team to watch for sure.

They are definitely a very fun team to watch! He just pulls someone off the bench, like McMullen, and see what happens!!

No need to be hesitant, it's true.

One thing that stand out for me is the fielding. As great as the pitching is, I think we've had as good or even better on a couple of occassions.

Same for hitting.

But fielding I've never seen better. For me that's always been an area where college baseball has suffered the most in comparison with the next level.

Even where fielding has been fairly clean, the difference in the range...getting to balls for me has always been glaring.

This LSU team has the efficiency and the range defensively that I just think you don't ever see in college baseball.

It's hard to measure how much that means, but I think it's what separates this years team.

You kind of have to expect a slump at some point, but maybe this will be like the 08 team and the just go on a huge run

This. There will be a stretch where we may lose a couple of series. Baseball season...a marathon, not a sprint.

This team definitely could win a series against the Astros

Oh please.

I am as big a Tiger fan as anyone, but no college team could come close to hitting major league pitching.

You think college baseball is down this year? What?

We have a sure fire three horse race for the best team in the country and it is as close as I've seen it over this long a period of time. LSU, Vandy, and UNC have been dominant. All three couldn't have been more impressive and played more consistent, dominant baseball.

Then we have a few really good teams battling it out for a potential Top 8 seed in Virginia, CSF, Oregon State, etc.

Finally, we have teams such as Mississippi State, who is less than .500 in SEC play, but still fields a very talented lineup and pitching rotation and has the ability to beat any team in the country.

How is college baseball down?

They do it all the time in spring training.

This is the main difference between last year's team (also, just about every other college team) and this year's team.

Either way, SEC titles matter little in baseball in terms of national goals.

Beg to differ.

A regular season SEC champ is going to be all but assured a top 3 National Seed, if not THE top seed.

Of course, simply winning the West virtually assures you of a top 8 seed.
