3rd starter would be Herring if we didn’t need him to close other games

I’d take trotting a dude out every Sunday to give up 4 runs over 6 innings 6 days of the week and twice on Sunday. That gives you a great chance to win.

Also, isn’t that your entire point? That such a starter would be outside the norm for college baseball?

Either way, that’s a long shot better than what we’ve had this year. But, I digress, I think we are on the same side, just arguing over a difference of maybe 1 team.

I’m a positive Tiger and all-around baseball fan. Stand with these dudes always, including during the roller coaster that was this season. Trust that you are the same. So cheers to one hell of a win tonight and a team fighting their d*cks off right now.

My point is teams having subpar pitching on "Sundays" is the norm, which it is. Whether it's 1 guy or 4 guys, it's typically a slugfest on those days.

Exactly.

Usually a teams 3rd, 4th and 5th "best" pitchers are used Friday and Saturday out of the bullpen. LSU is no different.

Even great teams usually only have 2 really good starters and they use their best bullpen arms to make sure they close out those 2 games. It’s why you see so many 12-10 games on Sundays after low scoring games on Friday and Saturday. I’m not really sure why this is a hard concept for people in this thread.

They didn't last year either until Hurd showed out in the WS. Game 3s were always bullpen games. Their bullpen was just stronger last year

That’s how you win Sundays. Your right pitching struggles but on Sundays you have to hit. We did. And timely

So evidently their Sunday guys are obviously better? Today is our Sunday game and yet again we are struggling. That shouldn't be an issue at LSU.

Well you are wrong, but it’s ok lol. Our lineup has been crap on Sundays. You saw today how you should hit Sunday pitching.

Really? Florida,
Florida threw Caglione on Sunday who has slightly better numbers than Sam Dutton, Kade Anderson, and Javen Coleman

Not to mention their Friday guy has a 6.35 ERA and their Saturday guy has a 5.83 ERA.
quote:

Tennessee
Sechrist threw on Sunday and he's probably the best Sunday starter in America. and he has a 4+ era.
quote:

aTm
A&m started Tanner Jones, a guy who has a 6.70 ERA and couldn't get out of the third inning against LSU. He's bad.
quote:

Arky
Arkansas has Mason Molina, a transfer who they tampered with to get. Them and Tennesee are the exception this year. Still, his ERA is over 4.
quote:

Vandy
Vanderbilt started Carter Holton who has a 5.29 ERA.

You don't know what you're talking about. Three of your examples are just flat incorrect and the other two, the two best in the country, are average at best. Just because you win on Sunday does not mean you have a good third starter. Similarly, just because you throw your best pitcher on Sunday (Florida) doesn't mean you have three solid starters.

Man, I really didn’t want to get back into this one, but you just pulled me back in.

I’ll give you that Florida’s staff has underperformed this year. They have played the number 1 SOS. Also, Jac Caglione is a great third/Sunday starter btw…. He has a 4.35 ERA over 13 starts, 62 innings. I’m not going to hammer on Dutton, but has started 3 games and has pitched 24 innings total. Real bad comparison there.

Most importantly, if you are trying to argue that a third starting pitcher, who has anywhere from a 4-6 ERA after an SEC schedule, is not a “solid” third arm for a team, then you, in fact, don’t know what you are talking about. If your third arm has a sub 4 ERA, then you are a serious contender for a Natty.

My point is that LSU’s Sunday situation has been terrible this year compared to other quality teams in the league. Also, that with the portal it is more common now than it has been historically that SEC teams have a “solid” or capable third starter. Of course, that dude will get rocked sometimes because of how good this league is, and that is the nature of the world that third dudes down the line are not as good as the first and second. We are talking in relativity here, comparing back end guys to front end guys is basically apples and oranges.

We can sit here and argue about this, and I’ll point out a lot of flaws in your logic and evidence behind your argument. But, I’m ready to put the phone down and enjoy the weekend.

It's all college baseball. Very few teams have 3 solid starters.

Many who do were surprises.

Get used to it.
