It's probably obvious, my primary concern with the 2020 offense.

A quality backup behind Brennan.

Will this effect play calling? Will the offense continue to go 5 wide and 5 protect?

Defenses will know this and bring that extra man to get a hit on Brennan.

Again this is obvious but just like Burrow, Brennan will have to show the ability to either make the first defender miss or quickly find the first open receiver. Burrow was excellent at that and I believe Brennan will be too. I'd rather see Brennan make a lot of throw-aways than take a hit especially at the beginning of the season.

This is the biggest question mark I have for next seasons offense.

An offense breaking in a few new starters on O-Line, new RB, 1 new WR and a new QB in an offseason where they didn't get to practice together much and your primary concern is the backup?

Yes.

Because...

Leaves Brennan with a higher chance of getting hit and injured.

I think maybe you should be concerned with OL and RB blitz pickup since we’re losing CEH

Look at it this way, the back up in 2020 is going to be closer to Brennan's skill level than Brennan was to Burrow's . So, in that sense, we're better off.

My concern is how fast Brennan can read the defense, pre-snap. Burreaux was the best I’ve ever seen a college football quarterback manage his offense pre-snap...

Seems like your real concerns are with the o line

If we have backs who can catch, then it's just a question of everyone being on the same page. The coaches learned this past season that max protect is not always the way to go.

Release the back or TE into the void created by the extra rusher. It's an easy pitch and catch that usually gets a good gain and makes opposing defensive coordinators re-think how many they want send in a given situation.

If our biggest concern on offense is a backup, then I’d say we’re in pretty good shape

If they do, they will get killed!

These go hand in hand with OP’s concern. And I agree with him. Having true freshmen backup your QB is less than ideal. It may take a little while to find the right OL group—the best 5–but there are plenty of options to work with.

And like Burrow in ‘18, this will be the 1st time Brennan has started since he was in high school 4 years ago. He’s gonna be a bit rusty at first with picking up blitzes pre-snap, being comfortable in the pocket, knowing when to slide up, roll out, throw it away, etc...

I expect Myles to be much better mid and late season than at the beginning (and the freshmen too, obviously). But Brennan going down early for any significant period of time would be disastrous. You don’t wanna he forced to have to play true FR QBs any year, but this year especially as they both lost extremely valuable reps with the Corona situation.

This is a true statement, but it ignores the fact that Brennan has been practicing with these receivers for 3 years. In 2018, Burrow had 3 weeks (or less as a starter) to work with the receivers.
The pocket presence and mechanics are an issue, but Brennan got a pretty good number of snaps in blowouts to shake a little rust off in full contact play.

Right, but my point wasn’t that Myles won’t be good—I think he will be, maybe even great. I am just speaking to the rust at the 1st part of the season combined with the new OL making him more susceptible to taking hits, which could lead to injury, which could lead to at QB.

I agree. If we make it past Texas, IMO, we are on the way to another very successful season. Good chance we make the playoffs again.

My primary concern is no more Brady in the booth. If you watched One for the Ages, he was able to lock in on what the defense was doing and translate that into effective plays. I am excited to know that this is the new style of offense for LSU, but his in game offensive adjustments will be missed.

This guy gets it. Brady’s ability to dissect defense in game is instinctive it can’t be taught. I love Steve E but if he had that he wouldn’t have been Tight end coach before this gig.

I am more concerned about an illegal ,hit. Does anyone recall the illegal hit on Jordan Jefferson in the back in the AL game, I believe 2009? It was was not even called and clearly well after the throw. But even if it was called it wouldn’t have mattered. Jefferson was out of the game after the hit. That type of thing bothers me more than anything. I worried about it all last year with Joe.

I always had the feeling that the big right tackle hung around Joe after he threw the ball as sort of a body guard.
