Kentucky was a regular LSU SEC east opponent back then and we played them every year through 2002.
We played in back-to-back in Lexington 2001-02 because we had played them twice in a row in Tiger Stadium in 1987-1988. After fourteen years this was finally resolved, for the last two seasons that they would appear on the LSU schedule as a regular opponent

The Wildcats had already dumped their Gatorade on their coach.

What's remarkable is that play was executed perfectly after having failed in practice about 100 straight times.
To quote Jim Hawthorne: "you won't see another play like that in a million years".

I love re-watching that play.
The Kentucky fan reactions rival those of the Viking fans when the Saints beat them in the NFCCG

Wow. i thought Flutie would've won it for sure.
The Gatorade bath and storming the field have a lot to do with it being at the top. It just adds to the drama. Flutie's pass is number one in other all time lists, this is just one.

Single greatest play of Jack Hunt’s career.

To my remembrance this was the first of only two college football games that the coach of the LOSING team received a Gatorade bath. The other being of course the infamous 7 overtime loss to A&M by LSU in 2018.

There was that poor Kentucy fan who had climbed the goal post, only to have a perfect view of the catch and TD.

don't remind us … LSU players did the exact same thing to Coach O last year

Great play, but why did we play them in Kentucky back to back?
Idk what the circumstances were, but we played Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium in 2001 and 2002.

What’s funny though, is the Advocate article said Henderson ran the wrong route, but still got it.
