In year seven, and started with no home court, we are #1. Has any sport at LSU ever come close to being #1 this fast? Same number of teams as Gym (about 60) so maybe not fair to compare to softball or women’s or men’s basketball (300+ teams) but wow this is impressive. Softball also made WS pretty fast I think. Hope they can keep it up, but to be #1 in any sport is needless to say difficult.

Glad you pointed out the discrepancy in the number of teams.

That fact makes it hard to answer your question. I thought it was less teams than what you say.

LSU has a home court now. The best in the country.

Beach has 61 D1 teams, Gym has 62.

It's impressive, and I was thinking this was only about year 5. It's been a blur.

I love seeing LSU compete at the highest level, all around, and not just in the major sports.

There’s a local phenom who has committed to play for LSU—Parker Bracken (‘21)

Parker "Kraken" Bracken?

Just spit balling here, never heard of her, but always excited for new top players!

You look at the list of ranked teams and you see all the schools from states you would expect for beach volleyball; Florida, California, Hawaii, etc. But then there is LSU sitting at number 1 and Tulane at 20. Two Louisiana teams. Must be that Grand Isle sand.

I figured I'd register in order to answer this question...

The women's basketball program began varsity competition in 1974-75. At that time, the women's association (AIAW) had not yet merged with the NCAA. In 1977-78 the team was ranked #1 at times during the season, but was upset in the playoffs. The team had finished national runner-up in the previous season (1976-77).

Pretty neat - a fun game to watch, for many reasons.

Since the only 2 SEC schools with beach volleyball are LSU and USC-E, I guess their match in April will be for the (unofficial) SEC championship.
