Honest question. Who has LSU beat this year to draw this much optimism?

shite 10 games into his career here they were out calling for his head.
I thought I remembered going something like 13-1 to start year 1 before going 2-16 in the SEC

So optimism for me? Well I’ll be the first to tell ya I’ve been on the fence about mac from day 1, but I never wanted him to fail and really hoped he would succeed. So in year three seeing his coaching improve (so far) makes me optimistic that he is adapting to the SEC. Reason 2 being, he has brought in some young talent and they are playing unheard and seem to have bought in. But the real reason, I just love LSU basketball and it’s exciting to see us start off well. You know how sucky it is to see us drop OOC games to sucky teams and still sit thru SEC games with false hope that we are gonna improve lol?

3 of their 7 wins are against power 4 schools. I’m not saying they are going to win the championship, but they have played up to their competition. Their one loss was to a team that is in the top 25 and they were within 5 with 5 minutes to go.

It is a team that will be fun to watch. Definitely have to rebound better on the defensive end, but their guards play some damn good defense.

Yeah it feels like we are 1 big guy away from being legit threat, like a 7 foot center.

Year one was bad.

Year two was decent and he showed he could recruit.

Year three - looking good so far! Def too early but we have some depth and talent. And they look like a team playing FOR their Coach, something he struggled with year 1.

Pump the brakes a bit, FSU is not exactly the best team we're gonna face this year, but yes...solid win...long season but the eye test is pleasing for me to this point.

Would much rather have Reed back for SEC play - that would make me feel better, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Fellas let’s not start sucking each other off yet, it was a great win and I’m gonna enjoy it tonight, but those of you who know basketball know how brutal the SEC is gonna be. One game at a time guys, but hell of a win!

Yep, everyone was blowing the new Kentucky coach after they beat Duke and he lost to Clemson last night. Long season, but I'm much more pleased at this time this year than I was at this time last year when we were losing to bad teams.

They're one of the biggest teams in the country and have legit scorers all over the court. We were missing our best post player for the whole game. Downplaying this win is dumb.

It's often foolish to make definitive statements after 1 game...good or bad. What we can say is, thus far, this looks to be the best LSU has performed in the non-conference portion of the schedule (pending the SMU game) since he has been at LSU. Last year LSU played (what looks to be) a tougher non-conf. schedule, but struggled to get wins and had a "bad" loss to Nicholls St. In 2022-2023 LSU went 11-1 in Nov/Dec, but it was against a weaker schedule and they often struggled to beat mid-major teams at home.

This year LSU already has three wins over major conf. opponents, two away from home. They also have been able to win by comfortable margins against the mid-major teams absent a struggle vs. Charleston So. before they were able to pull away late. LSU should be favored over every team they play the rest of this month.

Whether McMahon is "good" this year, or at least good enough, will be determined in the crucible of SEC play where, right now, everyone looks to be "good". Perhaps really good!

There is no reason to downplay the win. But there's no reason to overplay it either. FSU has great size, but they are FAR from a good offensive team.

If you want to throw flowers at LSU for last night, it should be because of their offensive performance. LSU had their best game with respect to turnovers vs. a team that forces a lot of them. LSU was also able to shoot 45%, without their only (somewhat) consistent frontcourt offensive threat against a really good defensive team.

That LSU was able to play solid defense vs. FSU was not as encouraging as the fact they were able to play mostly efficient offense against FSU

It will be interesting to see Noah Boyde in a week or so.
