Have you found yourself trying to find ways to create distance from them?

I know there are lots of baws in here that have healthy families.. You can comment in here, but this OP/Question is obviously tailored towards those that might have grown weary of those closest to them..

You're not going to get a lot of honesty in this thread. Ultimately, what's troubling you baw?

Have spoken to my father probably three times in the last 30 years. Don't hate him and think he was a good dad for the first ten to twelve years but he moved on with his life after he and my mom divorced and I moved on with mine after I served in the military. He remarried and pretty much kissed his new wife's arse and her family's. I started my own life with my wife and kids and never missed him after that. I learned what not to do from him like take interest in my kids likes and dislikes and learned how to communicate with them. I look like my dad, have a great sense of humor and a great worth ethic like my dad but he is just not part of my life and I don't miss him. Is what it is. Everyone else in my family we are good

Eta:da fuq I rambled it's 2 am in the morning and I am stuck at work so

Well, one is the cookie cutter system we find ourselves in..

Modern Family events are largely prescribed by corporations rather than spontaneous growth.

Ex: It's that time of the year again, boys!.. so we have to do that thing in that place..

Lots of families are starting to feel thin.. like butter scraped across too much bread.

I'm starting to see why some baws become Vagabonds

I legitimately feel sorry for you. My family (along with some friends as close as family) are the only reason I'm still here.

Some of them yes. Toxic and full of drama. Mostly women. Go figure

Or, we all have busy lives, but we are all able to get off at the same time, and celebrate a shared tradition in a place someone we care about is gracious enough to host it.

Sheesh, I bet you are a blast a parties. What do you volunteer to bring? Ice?

"It's the American Dream™ brought to you by Target and Disney. You work 60 hours a week just to fund a lifestyle you don't even enjoy because 'that's what you're supposed to do.' Drop the script and go off-grid.

Word of advice for the lurking: Never allow the women in your family to have too much information.

Family can be a double edged sword.. sometimes they have your back, and sometimes they make you better- but often times they can tear you down and have that crawfish mentality where they try to drag you down, or keep you down, with them.. they can resent success, and get incredibly jealous.. Family dynamics and relationships are very complex, and fragile... Ultimately, I try not to judge since you dont get to pick the family you were born into, and some folks have it exceptionally difficult.. some of us are lucky, many of us arent, when it comes to our families.. I dont buy the bullshite though, that you should put up with whatever, or deal with whatever, just b/c it is "family".. being someone's family doesn't give you the right to be an a-hole, or to be an insufferable prick .

Some of you could really use some fricking perspective.

You could, but for the roll of fate, be living the Somalian dream. Where you you hope the next western AID package comes because you've sold your sister so many times to the local warlord that he won't even give you food now when his troops rape her.

Do you not grasp that the poor in this country live better than the richest men a century or so ago?

I know it's been said a million times, but it was true when George Carlin first said it, and it is true today :

"It's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it ."

You drink clean water today? How far did you have to walk to the local well to hand pump it?

When you flicked the light switch, did the power give you instant illumination? Or was the grid on the fritz because incompetence or bombs rendered it inoperable?

Hell...you are communicating, right now, with people across the globe.

Do you even grasp the insanity that is? I mean...Jesus. We appreciate nothing apparently.

My great grandmother, left Finland on a ship, to come to America to live with her brothers who had found work in the states.

She passed them in the night, on a ship going back to Finland, because they were coming back home. They never saw each other again.

And yet you can send a message, instantly, across the world.

Man, you really have it rough

Apologies if my response derails this thread about famiy- but since you asked :

Your post has ZERO to do with America .. every single thing you mentioned is true in over one hundred countries around the world (with some notable exceptions)- at a FRACTION of what they would cost in America .. I live in Southeast Asia; it's currently Friday afternoon at 3pm, I ordered a late lunch one hour ago, a huge spread of delicious Asian food via their version of DoorDash/Ubereats.. , delivered to my condo, total cost inc tax ,delivery and tip was....... wait for it........ $3.50 usd, true story.... ... I left America because of the absolutely psychotic cost of living .. I was making a decent upper middle class income, yet I was still priced out of my home country .

The new American Dream is to leave America .. much like my ancestors emigrated from the old country to America in search of a better life- so did I, but in the opposite direction .

Wow. I guess I was completely, wholly off base. Over 100 counties? Really? With power and running water and everything?

You're right. Maybe I can flee to England, where my 3.50usd can get me a fish. A chip, and 3 drops of petrol... unless I dare share a meme about the raghead raping my wife and the bobbies come and throw me in jail for that...and not having my TV loicense.

Or maybe I could enjoy the cheap power and clean water of glorious South Africa. Boy I sure am glad they threw out those bad white men who made everything horrible and it's a utopia now .

Or maybe I could move to SE Asia and use my USD and get a ladyboy to deliver huge spread of Ping Ling Lao and Sum Yung Gui

Man, I'm glad you are happy and your dollar stretches further there, but the fact we have FAT AS shite POOR PEOPLE is proof that even if the CoL is high, we aren't living in the Greal Depression by any means

That's your first problem.. anytime someone uses the word "flee", as if leaving The Greatest Country on Earth !! [tm] is some kind of crime.. that right there tells me they've probably never been much outside of Livingston Parish .

Funny, it's always "ladyboys" when it's a guy talking who's sitting on his couch in the South, trapped in a sexless marriage .

Thanks.. but look, this thread is probably not the place to have this conversation.. since you seem to feel passionately about America being such an awesome place in 2026, maybe you could start a new thread .
