Is West a better IOL or DT prospect, and where is he more needed?

I missed most of the season but i remember people were very excited about West as a C prospect then I saw him playing D line in the bowl game because of depth i assume. With all things being equal depth wise do people see him as a better C or DT/NG prospect? With Bradford leaving I was just wondering

Exactly what spring practice is for
to figure out what will be his best position
I would leave him at DT and let him progress at that position

He was primarily a Dlineman in HS. He was starting at Dline on varsity in the 8th grade. When LCA played Southern Lab in a semi, 8th grade Fitz gave senior Kardel Thomas all he could handle, if my somewhat questionable memory serves me.

I think DLine is a more natural position for him. But my opinion is not worth much so

I think he's a nose guard, especially if DJ Chester is coming in here as a center.

We could use another interior lineman, though I think I'd take a high school kid.

West redshirted this year, so he and Hill are in line behind Smith and Wingo and the transfers at NG and DT. That gives you pretty good depth in the interior defensive line.

He looked awfully good in the bowl game. He was caving the pocket in on almost every play.

His snap and engage quickness is exceptional thanks to him being able to play d-line. (Quickness being how you separate out D-line from O-line). I think he may be able to go further as a center ($ and longevity) so while I have read he loves D-line more... he may want to really think about that choice.

Kelly recruited Jerry Tillery at Notre Dame to play OL and turned him into a 1st round pick at DT.

I watched him play his high school career. Great at both positions. In my opinion, he was a better offensive lineman

I'm sure he'll play both in spring. I think he seems to be a very good prospect on either side of the ball.

Your memory is incorrect . They never lined up head to head .

^ This. I know it was Purdue but he was getting major push every snap he was in. I'd love to see him rotate in more on the dline next year.

Couldn't recall. Fitz did have a heck of a game. That was one of the better semis I have seen in 1A football.

I did also and we agree he was great on both sides but we have differing opinions on which he was better at.

But really he was very good both ways so I can see differing.

One thing I will say is that for such a big kid who is a beast on the field, he is kind of a gentle soul in person, at least that was the experience we had.

Yeah. We have more of a need at DL, especially for guys who will be here AFTER 23. West did look good in the bowl game and could be a stabilizer there after Smith and Wingo move on.
