Texas A&M was a very good team then. Miami was a beast that OSt game was super frustrating. Archer was an idiot throwing instead of running and kicking a FG. Hodson was picked on the OSU 7 yd line. So much wrong with that game besides it being a day game.

Bama and SC tied for the natty

And LSU took both to the wire.
FSU wasn’t FSU yet. UGA sounds good now, but they sucked in ‘79. Ole Miss and Tulane? Colorado was 3-8.

1979 was a cakewalk compared to 2011, 2019 and 2026.

We looked sharp against Aggies that season. Shut them out.

The Ohio State debacle was tough to watch. We were in control. Tony Moss, if I recall, caught a tipped pass and made it a two possession game. And who will ever forget Carlos Snow?

I had the pleasure of traveling internationally that end of November so I missed the Miami and Tulane games. I have never watched either. Part of me wants to watch the Miami game just to see…I recall the weather conditions were awful. But how does the Sec champ who beat Auburn, lose by 41?

Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee all in a row is pretty tough Add Auburn at JH in there…
Modern fans do not appreciate how difficult it is to play there. People from the 1900’s do ;)

2011 toughest schedule of all time for all teams considering pressure involved.

This is a very tough schedule, but 2011 was statistically tougher.

Wins over (eventual final ranking)
@ Alabama (#1)
Oregon (#4)
Arkansas (#5)
@West Virginia (#17)
Georgia (#19)

If LSU had played and beaten Okie State, they would have been #1 with wins over the eventual #2, #3, #4, & #5 as well as another conference champion. Would have been a schedule nobody else could have ever matched.

ETA: With hosting two #1 teams in Tiger Stadium, 1979 isn't getting enough love in this thread.

That schedule is a monster. Can’t believe lsu would schedule Miami, Ohio state and A&M in one season. Wow

I don’t know about that considering who we had to go through in 2011 and 2019 but it is an impressive enough resume that weee the most likely team to get into the playoffs with 3 losses at the moment

That was a rough schedule. After the first two games (Colorado and Rice) nothing came easy. Wake Forest, McClendon's last stand, was a very good team, and the Tigers beat em handily. I was elated to see Charlie Mac go out a winner after so many years on the sidelines.

Didn't LSU beat like 6 top 15 teams in 2019 or some crazy stat like that? No. It's tough but nowhere near toughest.

I like looking at where they finished in their conference before the playoffs
Texas was not a great team that season. They lost 4 games to LSzu, TCU, Iowa State and Baylor…
