No because we didn't have the legacy we do today. Today feels more humbling.

Worse than losing to Troy and blown out by MSU? No. I was there, went to nearly every home game from 86 to 96, none of those teams were as bad as this one. If you need more proof of just how bad LSU is look at the box score from last night. LSU didn't just have a few bad breaks and lose on the score board, they were soundly beaten in nearly every stat imaginable by TROY!

Not quite yet but really close. The teams in the 90's lost a lot. But it seemed they were more tough and less talented. This team is is more talented less tough. Soft if you will. Not aggressive.

Difference back then is we had a Troy roster. Not the most talented but played better than they should have sometimes. Basically the opposite of what we're seeing.

It's funny that Alleva leaves Duke and their program emerged as a pesky relevance in the last few years

No, this is what 1989 felt like. We had been pretty good in the years leading up to '89. I don't think anyone anticipated 4-7 in the preseason

I was young, but this is worse. Expectations were not as high.

the 90's were before the time of home internet and the ability to get good coverage of what's going on...

what this feels like to me is the 1974 season where the wheels came off of the program...

Not there yet. Some still have aspirations of winning. When you no there is no chance then you will have reached the 90's.

We have more talent than some of those teams, but the loss hurts more than they did then. We expected to lose with Curley and with Dinardo, for a while - and that is the dangerous part of where we're headed - quickly.
These guys have NO heart, passion, or energy. They're soft and absolutely "me" focused. One heartbeat is a joke…

I was born in '83 and really got into LSU between '91 and '94. Those were tough years, but we knew that we sucked and kind of expected it. Those were some great game days because the expectations were so low.

This is going to be different. We've been to the promised land. We've had probably four of the best five seasons in LSU history in the past 15 years. People are not going to accept losing.

Funny you should ask. I was just thinking about how it was in 1994 when I was at LSU. I recall what got me through that season as a student was that Icehouse beer was introduced at $5 a case.

Using ziploc bags to sneak Crown Royal into the student section also made watching the games more enjoyable.

Drinking age was 18 back then. I would go to the Boot store and pick up a six pack of Natty Lite for $2.50. That was during my undergraduate years at Tulane.

LSU curbstomped the Buddy System in the Dome that year. But I think even Buddy Teevens could beat Troy and stay within 29 points of Moo U.

push this over about 5 seasons of not being bowl eligible, and you're there

That's what made beating Florida in 97 so damn great. We went in to that game hoping to make a game of it but expecting a typical Spurrier beat down. When we went up 14 early I remember thinking "we may be in this game in the 2nd half". As the game got later and later, the stadium got louder and louder. Still the most fun I had at a game to this day.

We didn't lose to the likes of TROY back then. Our nonconference games were vs really good teams like Texas A&M, Florida State and of course the annual battle w/ Tulane (until 1994).

This year's team has already plumbed depths that couldn't have been fathomed even the last two years of Archer or the entire Hallman regime. Getting annihilated by an average (at best) Miss St and losing on Homecoming to...TROY?!

And, the worst lies ahead. I can't imagine what the next 7 weeks, vs SEC competition, will look like.

My senior year of high school was 1995 and no one gave a damn about lsu football. I became an lsu fan my first month at lsu with the bring back the magic game. Lsu right now is moving sadly in that direction and with lineplay the way it is, i just do not see it getting better quickly

This is what 1989 felt like. We were "always good" and expected bowl games each year and to sniff the SEC title every few. Tommy Hodson was a senior. 4-7. It was compounded when Curly replaced Archer.

God I hope this isn't that again.....
