I've been 3 times 02, 04, and 08. I had a truck passing by while I was walking scream F*** LSU no big deal they were going 30 MPH and a guy in the bar that was the purple porpoise not sure what it's called now walk by and say F*** LSU dude was wasted and wearing a mets jersey. Neither event was serious nobody was ever in my face or has ever been remotely close to getting in my face. I was patted down before entering the stadium in 02 but never had it happen the other times. There's ways around liquor laws they have so no big deal. They deffinetly don't tailgate anything like us, you'll alot full of RV's with nobody outside of them. It's not a bad trip I'd definetly go again and might go this year.

Gainesville sucks.

One run-in with the University of Florida Police Department and you will understand completely.

I have only gone once, but it was great. You do need to be careful with open containers - use a cup at all times. We were fed by a large FL tailgate and then spent some time in the bars near the stadium. People gave us shite, but it was not anything that cannot be handled if you don't take it seriously. Don't be an arse yourself, and you'll be fine. That was my experience at GA and AU as well.

WVU was polarized. Everyone over 40 treated us great and apologized for how most of their fans would treat us. Everyone under 40 (with one exception- a law school alum who we met at the airport who received us at her tailgate the next day)cursed us out repeatedly just for walking by.

We went one year and I met up with some UF alumni that were friends to tailgate.

They asked us to remove or cover the purple and gold clothing due to the cops harrasment.

We didn't. About twenty mins later we are playing beer bong at this UF tailgate on a UF table and cops come to shut it down (UF doesn't allow drinking games - only enforced with opposing teams).

Also, they have strict drinking zones on campus (only enforced for opposing fans).

Also, like mentioned above, you better have your f****** solo plactic cups ready.

In all, its just a cestpool combination of guido affliction trash from jersey / long island and jort loving rednecks from the panhandle.

The actual alumni are great by sparse.

And this. I was going to say the exact same thing.

It's called arrogance plus the a-hole attitude.

I've been everywhere except Ark, kentucky and south Carolina. Gainesville is the worst by far.

Horribly struck tailgating rules.

Guidos everywhere.

Jorts.

You will have shite thrown at you. You will then get escorted out of the stadium for just turning around to see where it came from.

Jorts

Couldn't have said it better myself. Gainesville is a shite hole and Gator fans are the worst. The only redeeming quality is the actual game atmosphere, which is among the best in the SEC.

Agreed. Loudest stadium outside Death Valley (auburn is close too).

The desgin of the Swamp is my favorite in the SEC. Very neat stadium design.

And to be honest, I don't think "southern" when I think Florida. Despite being so low location wise. The state in general just doesn't feel like you're typical southern hospitality states.

That's b/c it is not. And the farther you drive south, the less it feels like a southern state. And if you drive south enough getting to Miami, it feels like you are almost in another country.

Agree 100%........we stepped out of the car on Friday night to go have a drink at some of the bars and we had a group of girls curse us out, at that point I knew it was going to be pretty rough.

There are no major tourist attractions or anything like that, like most SEC towns, but it is a good place. I've been there many times and have enjoyed it. Go to the Ale House real cool place.

People that behave in a civilized manner very rarely find trouble there or anywhere in my experience.

Gainesville is awful. Went there when I was 12 and we had shite thrown at our car for no reason, cops harass us and people spit and throw drinks at us in the stadium. Oh and the town itself blows and is a long arse drive. F that place. I'd rather go to Starkville.

I've compared the places to friends in the past. Gainesville is basically the "Starkville of the East" IMO. Of the two, I'll take Starkville. Much better tailgating there, and the campus has come a long way over the years.

If you haven't made a trip up there to Starkville lately, you should go. And skip Gainesville.

You'll thank me later.

I live in GV and I wear purple and gold frequently, year round. People comment, but I survive.

Be very carful with drinking outdoors.

UF will not allow me to park on campus on a game day - and I've worked for UF for 31 years! That part stinks.
