So, why is it, whenever you see lists of the best coaches, Les' name isn't there?
No doubt LM is a great coach, but they also take into account his tenure as a CF coach, which is not nearly as great compared to the very recent.

So, here is some of this dickhead's top coaches ahead of Miles (plus I threw in Les Miles for comparison). Which order would you put these in?
Pete Carroll - 70 - 8 (six years .8975) 5 BCS wins, 1 BCS NC loss, 1 BCS NC
Jim Tressel - 66-11 (six years .8571) 3 BCS wins, 2 BCS NC losses, 1 BCS NC, 4 NC at 1-AA level
Rich Rodriguez - 57 - 18 (six years .760) 1 BCS win, 3 bowl losses, 1 bowl win
Bob Stoops - 90-17 (eight years .8411) 1 BCS NC, 2 BCS wins, 4 BCS losses, 1 bowl win
Jim Grobe - 45-39 (seven years .5357) 1 BCS loss, 2 minor bowl wins
Mark Richt - 64-15 (six years .8101) 2 BCS wins, 1BCS loss, 3 bowl wins
Les Miles - 58-20 (six years .7436) 1 BCS NC, 2 BCS wins, 2 bowl wins, 2 bowl losses
Nick Saban - 99-48-1 (12 years .6723) 5 bowl losses, 3 bowl wins, 2 BCS wins, 1 BCS NC
Mack Brown - 183-94-1 (23 years .660) 2 BCS wins, 1 BCS NC, 6 bowl losses, 8 bowl wins
Mark Mangino - 37-36 (6 years .5068) 1 BCS win, 1 bowl win, 1 bowl loss
Frank Beamer - 164-85-2 (17 years .6554) 3 BCS losses, 7 bowl losses, 6 bowl wins
Dennis Erikson - 126-53-1 (15 years .700) 6 bowl losses, 4 bowl wins, 1 BCS win, 2 NCs

Well how 'bout this. Four losses this year. Or should I go with five?

U can guess whatever you want.......but it's just that, a guess.
I'd put money on it that LSU doesn't lose 5 games though; how certain are you about that?

Five is probably a little high. I think four.
Posted on 5/8/08 at 5:31 pm to Geert Hammink_43
With the schedule, new DCs and a new QB with zero game experience I think a 4 loss season should be expected. Anything better I would consider and overachievement. Florida had a 4 loss season last year with the Heisman trophy winner. Do any of you consider Florida's last season a disappointment, I certainly do not?
I think some people need to step back and reevaluate their expectations. Before 2007 I told one of my Auburn buddies I expected LSU to lose 3 or 4 games in 2008. I will say that I firmly believe this post NC LSU team is in much better shape than Saban's 2004 team. Miles and his assistants have done a very good job of getting the younger players involved early. It's really amazing how they've been able to replace the departing studs and keep the level of play so high.

That dumbass has Mike Leach of Texas Tech at 11.
I actually think Leach is a good coach. He recruits against Texas, Texas AM, OU , & LSU (TCU sorta). I've been waiting for this guy to get a job where he can actually recruit.

DiNardo's problem was he did not understand how to maintain discipline and he lost control of his team.
And he sure gets a pass for it too.

You can take it or leave it but the person that got LSU football initially turned around was none other than Gerry Dinardo
This mantra sure has picked up pace since January of last year but "initially" is the key word here.
But, maybe Hallman recruited better athletes than people give him credit for. Alot of those athletes made it possible for us to win 7 games in 1995 and 10 games in 1996.

Bama likes to believe this was the problem with their program and that Saban would be able to do the same with their team but based on the on and off the field results thus far there seems to be more there than that
Did you mean to say "more there than here"? I wonder why Bama lost 6 games in 2006. Things just didn't go their way did it?

Tressel at 2?
Leach?
Brown?
Leach?
Brown?

1 NC and 2 11+ win seasons = Yes at this timeframe

Exactly what I have been saying. In the last 15 months DiNardo, formerly the number one villain of LSU football, has been totally reinvented by our stupid fanbase.
"Other than mismanaging every aspect of the football program, not recruiting particularly better than his predecessor, winning 7 games combined his last two seasons and leaving the program's morale and discipline in shambles, DiNardo was definitely the reason the program turned around, and not Saban who took over this joke of a football team and won a national title."

Outside of not winning his last 2 years, DiNardo did a helluva job.
Outside of not hiring a d-coordinator who liked to adjust schematically after Reese left, DiNardo did a helluva job.
Outside of not getting rid of Vernon Banks as strength and conditioning early enough, DiNardo did a helluva job.
Outside of not hiring a quality OC to replace Watts, DiNardo did a helluva job.
Outside of recruiting too many athletes with academic issues, DiNardo did a helluva job.

As I mentioned in another thread, here is a comparison of how many true freshmen Saban had to play his first season vs. Miles:
Miles' first season only two true freshman from his first signing class saw game action: Darry Beckwith and Steve Korte. And it is debatable whether or not Korte really needed to play.
From Saban's first class Jack Hunt, Devery Henderson, Adrian Mayes, Chad Lavalais, Erin Damond, Stephen Peterman, Randall Gay, and Eric Alexander all saw game action as true freshmen in 2000. That's an awful lot of true freshmen having to contribute on a team that is "loaded with talent."

quote:Partly true. The problem is not that they are hard to change, it's that they do not want to change, because that would mean they were wrong.
Unfortunately, Miles didn't have a lot of hype coming from Ok State and people questioned the hire. Those minds are going to be hard to change.
Basically there is one and only one motivation for people who now claim that Miles is not a great coach: pride. They are the people who proclaimed him mediocre (or worse) when he was first hired, and would rather look ridiculous arguing against his ability than simply admit that they were wrong.

There was/is simply no excuse for us to have seasons like '98 and '99.
Just for starters, had DiNardo had hired Rodriguez as OC after Watts left instead of McConnell, he might still be coach here.
But yeah, I was listening to Bill King either this morning or yesterday and he was talking about Mike Shula's tenure at Bama. He was facetiously talking about how Shula was a helluva coach, if winning consistently doesn't matter.

This seeks to rank HC's by regular season win/loss records more than anything else.
I rank em and always have by Bowl appearences first/wins and losses in bowls/BCS Bowls count for at least three times the others/ and most important BCS NC wins....'
Where, by my system, does that place Les Miles!!?
