If there's anybody out there who honestly believes that we win the NC last year with The Little Scumbag as coach then I've got some pearl rich oyster beds in a freshwater lake here in OK. that I want them to invest in!
No way does Little Nicky beat Fla. and probably not Auburn. At best we would have finished 8-4. Maybe 7-5 or 6-6 still losing to KU and Arky.
Thanks anyway Zee, good luck with wherever you're going.

If not for Saban, we'd have beat Iowa in the 2004/5 Capital One Bowl and ended up 10-2 and ranked no worse than #8. He was so busy checking out of LSU, counting his money in his head and congratulating himself that, OOOOOPSIE!, he forgot to fricking pay attention to actually coaching the damn game in the last minute.

That was one play by Ronnie Prude where he screwed up the coverage, not Saban making a bad call. The better situation to bring up would have been the loss at ArKansas in'02 where we went to the Prevent and Matt Jones passed for 90 something yards in the last minute that kept us from going to the SEC championship.

UT in '06, Ole Miss '06, Bama '07. Those 3 right there shouldn't have been close.

And coached said talent better than his predecessor.

Do you think Miles could have rebuilt this program if he'd gotten the job in 2000?

Maybe....no way to know though. He's building a strong program now and making it even better.

I remember geting in on a call in during Saban's show and told him to quit going to the "Prevent D" late in the games. He said, "We don't have a "Prevent d!".

Can you explain to me why he wasn't able to do the same turnaround at Alabama last season? He had arguably the same or better talent.

Maybe he's lost his touch?

Check out how many players Bama had in the NFL draft this year.

I gotta call bullshite on that statement. Saban is the head coach and in that situation with time expiring and 9 seconds on the clock and expiring you don't play UP!!!!! You play prevent! All on Saban. Players only play as well as they're coached, too, by the way.

My understanding is this had more to do with their character issues and not so much talent. You telling me DJ Hall wasn't a top WR in the SEC?

The program was already built back. Miles just has to baby sit it and not screw it up.
As for making it stronger, we'll have to wait and see. Depsite what the Kool-Aid drinkers think, this team isn't likely going to finish with a as good a record as any of his previous teams.
Perrilloux had to be cut loose and it will cost us some wins this year.
Not going out and hiring a defensive coordinator is a major concern. Pevito couldn't even get our special teams in order this year. How they hell can you trust him to manage half of the defense?

I didn't pay that much attention to DJ Hall this year. He may be, he may not be.

I'm not saying he had equal talent at Alabama last season but his cupboard damn sure wasn't bare. The schedule wasn't all that bad either. They had some good home game opportunities.

Let's be honest here, Saban walked into an almost sure thing when he came to LSU.

You're joking right? LSU was at or near the top in almost every special teams category last season.

I think you have to also look at the quality of the SEC as a whole when Saban came in versus when Miles entered the picture. Sure Miles took over an established LSU team, but look at the coaching, recruiting, and overall level of the competition now. Nobody in their right mind can argue that the SEC isn't the best conference with the best coaches and Miles is consistently beating that competition.

The SEC was a two pony show when Saban came to LSU, Florida and Tennessee. Spurrier was soon to be coaching the Redskins and Tennessee was entering their slide down the scale. Auburn was still recovering from probation, Alabama was going through coaching turmoil and probation was just around the corner. UGA wasn't yet at their current level. His biggest competition at the time was Ole Miss and Arkansas.

Name a team that hasn't had any close calls, weird bounces of the ball, played subpar games & almost lost regardless of talent.

What's funny about this list is Coach Miles has beaten half the coaches on the first list you mention (Link). But no other coach on the list can claim this. Miles record and what coaches he has beaten on this list automatically puts him as a top 5 coach.

Sorry if someone has already mentioned this, I don't have time to read all the posts on this thread.

No..Miles built up damned near empty OL & TE positions.

Ricky Jean Francois was the Natonal Championship game MVP & Chad Jones ended Bama. "Miles recruits"..

Peveto was LSU's LB'er coach 1st, Special teams a distant 2nd. BTW, Not many punts blocked or PAT's missed huh? Didn't that fake FG make every highlight reel in America?

...crazy Dutch bastard
