Sure, he's got the bucks now. He's right there at the top in the SEC for contract dollars. He's won an NC. He's taken a team to a 34-6 record over the last three years. He's destroyed three Top 10 teams in three straight bowl games, two of which were BCS bowls.

So, why is it, whenever you see lists of the best coaches, Les' name isn't there?

This dickhead ranked Miles at #41 a year ago

Same dickhead, now after an NC, he ranks Miles at #20

We will have a better understanding of where he should rank after this year. Saban's players are gone.

More to coaching than Xs and Os. I would say Miles is in the top 25, but does it really matter when you have the best talent in the nation?

There is no place for idiots like Les in the top 10. What are you smoking?
He can win 10 more titles and he is still an idiot who won just because he gambles and got lucky. Lucky bastard!!! /sarcasm

If you haven't won a NC, you don't belong in the top 10. Period.

Ahem...there is a guy called Pete on the west side who loses to Stanford with better talent.

Because Miles is a coach who lets his assistance really coach. He doesn't micromanage everthing, but still is the Top Dog.

Pete has also gone undefeated. Like I said, more to coaching than Xs and Os.

ehhhh, tough one. I think Miles is a good players coach, which make him a good recruiter. I think he's very personal which make the players and thier parents feel comfortable about being a part of his program. I think he should leave the ingame stuff to his co-ordinators (i.e. play calling and personel decisions).

I think he posses good qualities that some of the great in-game coaches don't.

The biggest part of being a college coach is recruiting so, yes, it really does matter in college.

Part of the measurement of a college coach is how well you recruit. Pete Carroll sucks as an X's and O's coach but is one hell of a recruiter so that is why he wins and gets credit as a good coach.

The reason Miles is so low on everyone's list is because he gives terrible interviews. He is aloof and not a polished speaker. He comes across as an idiot at times.

Perception is reality in the media age.

So why aren't those "intangibles" an equalizer? Seems like he's done pretty much everything it takes except losing to a hugely inferior team (USC<Stanford).

I think people around the country consider Miles in the same mold, maybe a little better, than Mac Brown.

People think he's not that great of a coach, even though he won a championship and that thought is always in the back of their heads.

Unfortunately, Miles didn't have a lot of hype coming from Ok State and people questioned the hire. Those minds are going to be hard to change. People who come in with great hype get the advantage of the other side of the coin (see Wies, Urban Myth and Saban to Bama) just because they are big names.

I think Miles is in the top 15, maybe top 10. It's hard to decide, because guys like Brian Kelly and Paul Johnson are great coaches who haven't really had a chance with a major power yet, a la Miles, Brown, Pete, etc.

I am just personally glad Miles is here.

If coaching is judged on titles and wins, Miles should be there on that list. No matter how he does it! And many forgot he gave Bob Poops plenty of trouble with a lot less talent.

Bottom line, he could suck as a Xs and Os coach, he could suck as a public speaker, he could be a riverboat gambler...donesn't matter, he produces Ws on the field.

I agree. Like someone else said, he's not a good interviewer. He comes off as goofy.

He's not even the 6th best coach in the SEC.

Miles, Meyer, Spurrier, Saban, Fullmer, Paterno, Tubby > Richt

Joe Tiller at #18

Tiller is pretty good. I think it's hard to win at Purdue.
