re: Is LSU-Arizona State 2005 the most insane LSU football game no one talks about?

I was there! A classic and surreal because it was supposed to be in Tiger Stadium!

One of my favorite LSU games ever. Almost all of us had significant real life issues to deal with. Then our new coach is running a fake punt from our own end zone early in the 1st quarter. What a time to be alive.

I’ll never forget where I was at for this game. Not many had power yet so we watched it at Fox and the Hound along with so many other fans. I didn’t remember 2 blocks returned for TDs though.

I don't care what anyone says...
Sean McDonough and Ron Franklin were the best college broadcasting duo of that era. I wish CBS would have hired them for the SEC games instead of the Tebow/Bama suck fests we have.
I distinctly remember watching that game, and before that fourth down play, Franklin called it. He said something like: LSU Needs to allow Russel the ability to roll out of the pocket and just launch one. Don't necessarily go for a first down here, go all in.

remember the fake punt pass for a 1st down?
I was at the game. I thought. "What the hell is this new coach doing?!?"
First drive of his tenure at LSU and inside our own 20...

Went to my camp in north Louisiana to get away from the non-stop helicopter traffic over my house south of BR. What I didn’t think about was the storm went over our camp as well. No real damage except for the arm on my DirectTV satellite was broke by a fallen limb. Cables still in tact just a free moving arm which we McGyver’d with duct tape for proper alignment for signal and to hold in place. Was a wild arse game !

Nobody talks about it because it was 20 years ago.

Definitely would be a more remembered game if not for the following meltdown vs Tennessee

This requires more attention. Going strictly off memory, wasn't it something like the first 4th down of the year, and we were back on our own 20, something like that? And simply because the coverage team turned their back on the gunner, the punter threw to him?
LOS was inside the 10, Chris Jackson threw it from the endzone. ASU left Ronnie Prude at gunner totally uncovered. I don’t remember if it was ever revealed whether the fake was called from the sidelines or if CJ audibled when he saw Prude uncovered. CJ played QB at Curtis and 3B for LSU baseball so I’m sure he had the confidence he could make the throw.

The opener the season prior vs Oregon at was just as exciting!

Oregon State. That was a really crazy football game

Early Doucet did not catch the ball on that 4th down.
A bad call gave LSU the win and that is why this game is forgotten.

We were still evacuated. Living in a Lutheran retreat camp in Ball Louisiana. No cable. But a buddy's mom in Alexandria let me stay at her house to watch the game that evening.
