It's funny how almost all my non LSU friends think he sucks. Come to think of it...I don't know one person that watches college football and is not a LSU that thinks he is good.
How many coaches are considered good by fans of other programs? Only those who win multiple national titles in most cases. Even now, most would consider Dabo washed up, so that really only leaves Smart.

That's 4 losses.....that SEC Championship game counts.....but you go ahead and keep your goggles on too.
If you don’t see the difference between 10-4 with a SECCG loss to the national champions and the “8-4” caricature you are trying to create, then it’s clear you aren’t even trying to be reasonable here. The losses may lineup, but only because the team accomplished something. Regardless, the wins do not lineup. He’s won 9 regular season games in each of his first two seasons here. That’s not a perennial 8-4. The truth is this is the first time Kelly has lost 4 regular season games (or won less than 9 regular season games if you still want to argue about 2022) since 2016.

Bless your heart.
“He’s a 8-4 or 7-5 regular season coach. At best!”
“But Lee, he went 9-3 in his 1st 2 regular seasons here.”
“But that SECCG game counts!!!”
“It does, but I’m afraid you don’t know what the “regular season” means. Or the words ‘at best.’ Oh, and we went 10-3 last year by the way.”
“But 4 losses, 4 losses, 4 losses!!!!!”
“Hey Lee, let me list the number of losses Nick Saban had here at LSU, when the SEC was nowhere as brutal as it is now.
2000–4 losses
2001–3 losses
2002–5 losses
2003–1 losses
2004–4 losses
Maybe logic, Lee, is just not your game. I know, how bout a spelling contest.

1 or 2? I don’t know, I challenged everybody in this thread who doesn’t think Kelly is good to name 10 coaches in the FBS who they think are. I even spotted them Kirby. So I’m just asking for 9 names. That was 3 or 4 pages ago. And so far, crickets.
The fact is, in today’s sports fandom, people think everybody sucks. I’be read on here several times this year that Kirby Smart sucks. I mean, come on. But that’s the thinking. You’re either the best ever, or you suck. Win the NC or you suck. Win the NC back to back seasons and lose in the SECCG to the best coach in CFB history the next? You suck.
People are retarded. I’ve got no problem with being emotional and saying some stuff, in the heat of the moment, that you really don’t mean. But when you actually are trying to argue with reason and lack any and all sense of self-awareness when your take on every coach, team, QB, etc…is “they suck,” well, that kind of stupidity switches between making me laugh and just being offended by their very existence. The intellectual dishonesty is pretty offensive too. Oh well. I know where I’m logged into.

Unranked. Let that sink in. Not prepared in week 1 was inexcusable losing to a bad USC team.

He's regressed and he still doesn't have the elite players hardly anywhere on the roster. A sprinkle here and there, it's ridiculous that he hasn't built an elite first unit on both sides of the ball with some depth. He's settling for Sloan an OC that really hasn't done shite except recruit well and develop qbs. shite play caller!
DC is unproven and if anyone thinks his defense at Mizzo was great or elite your retarded. I love Baker and the players do to, but he's unproven. He's settling on hires and paying unproven coaches to much $$.
He's been beatin every year in the portal and settles for Southeastern and small time players bc he got out recruited. We shouldn't be this thin on this roster at year 3. It's BS

Or is it just a really weird year for SEC football?

Posted on 11/26/24 at 9:05 am to lsucoonass
Don't think he's that bad. If a moron like Coach O and an awkward "run into the 11 man box", Les Miles can win Natty's, Kelly should have his in another year or two.

We're staring down the barrel at 7-5 and replacing the entire OL next year. I appreciate the optimism, but no.

Is replacing the entire OL a bad thing when they're only good at half their game (pass vs. run blocking)?
Posted on 11/26/24 at 9:19 am to The Pirate King
Kelly is not really that bad. But maybe he's not really that awesome either. I do not have the optimisim that I did when he was hired. And yes it is a weird year in the SEC but there is more parity for sure - which might lead to a loss of optimism.

This is what I hate about wins like this.
We beat Vandy and suddenly people wanna act like “you know what, he’s pretty good”
That doesn’t change the fact he’s never prepared for big games, is an excuse machine, and doesn’t have us anywhere near where we’d thought we’d be in year 3
It's also frickin Vandy. Yes, they're not one of the worst teams in FBS football like they usually are this year, but they're not actually good. The fact that we're happy about beating a barely bowl eligible team that's under .500 in conference play just shows how far the team has fallen.

At this point, after three years, who will be the favorite next season?

Fine, if you're really insistent that it's some "gotcha" that people can't be assed to open up Sportsreference.
1. Kirby.
2. Ryan Day.
3. Dabo Swinney
4. Sark.
5. Dan Lanning.
6. Josh Heupel.
7. Lane Kiffin.
8. James Franklin.
9. Mike Gundy.
10. Shane Beamer.
11. Kyle Whittingham.
Not counting people who sure seem better but don't have the sample size yet in Curt Cignetti, Kalen Deboer, and Mike Elko. You'll also notice that 5 of those coaches are in the SEC.
It's year 3 and the the team is a worse version of the team he fielded after having 39 scholarship players. In a year that in retrospect should have been up for grabs because everybody not named Ohio State is pretty bad. Next year is looking fringe bowl eligible at the moment because all the bright spots are leaving and we're nearly a fringe bowl eligible team this year.

he’s still a better coach then O or Les was,

He's not that bad. But he's not that good. We didn't pay $100m for not that bad.
I was pleased with the hire. I thought he was ahead of schedule early. But Kelly continues to confound in his "judge me" year. All he had to do was not shite the bed entirely against AtM, Bama, and UF (all essentially average/one dimensional teams), and we'd be in the hunt.
Posted on 11/26/24 at 12:17 pm to lsucoonass
No he’s not. It’s a weird transition year for not only LSU but damn near everyone. Look at traditional powers and how they’re adapting to the new landscape.
