re: Is JJ's image beyond repair no matter what at this point?

JJ's image is already hurt regardless of what happens. And that is pathetic. I refuse to believe that for 3 straight seasons Jefferson will just struggle so much. I'm probably delusional but I think this year he finally gets it. Sure I may be naïve, but its a heck of a lot better than waiting for the worst to happen.

There is precedent. See Jason Campbell.

Again I think there is a portion in my opinion small who probably have been against JJ due to race issues.
However I feel the overwhelming majority of those who want to see a qb change are basing it on JJ's performance and seeing him fail to take responsibility for his performance.
To say that the majority dont want JJ as the starting qb due to his race would seem to fly in the face of the fact that Rohan was wildly popular qb (due to his performance and not his race) and I would bet that if JJ performed as well as Rohan the only people not wanting him to be the starting qb at LSU would be the small minority with race issues not the majority (in my opinion)of LSU fans who want to see a change at qb because of performance.

Then don't look at aggregate numbers. Look at the TD to INT ratio and YPA stats from Lee in 2008 and JJ in 2010
Why don't we take into account which team had a better line. There is more to it than just comparing numbers from one year to another. JL showed some flashes of greatness but are you saying he didn't also look terrible at times?

Post the truth? Are you actually going to suggest to me and others here that race DOES not play a part in the reaction of fans towards players? Are you going to tell me that you've NEVER heard anyone in Tiger Stadium toss out a racial slur towards a player? Really?
I'm torn. On the one hand, I believe JJ is reviled primarily because he is an inept QB who compounds his on-field futility with an inexplicable and disproportionate off-the-field swagger.
On the other hand, the staggering enmity that the LSU fanbase reserves for JaMarcus Russell - a man who excelled during his LSU tenure - proves beyond a doubt that racism is alive and well in certain quarters of the Ole War Skule. Well, that, and the fact that I have personally witnessed the n-word bandied about Tiger Stadium as if it were a many splendored beach ball.

he'll still be an average QB though
If he were able to reach average (mean or median in the SEC), then it would far exceed where he has ever been before.

He was a mediocre QB before the fight and he'll likely be a mediocre QB afterwards. The fight just adds off the field dumbassedness to his portfolio.

Oh, for Pete's sake. I'm starting to feel like I've accidently turned on MSNBC. So now if someone is fed up with Jefferson or would like to see Lee or Mettenberger play its because they are racists and in the Klan somewhere.
Unbelieveable. Yea, I guess the Georgia Dome at the 2000 Peach Bowl had 20,000 black fans yelling for Rohan over Booty.

I guess we'll simply have to agree to disagree on the percentage where race plays a part...because in my comings and goings as an LSU fan, it pops up WAY too often.

I really want to agree with this...in terms of performance being the thing and all. but if that was the case, you would not have had nearly the same group of fans calling for Flynn over Russell the entire time JR was here. You like stats Rudy...wanna run Russell's stats versus Flynn's to suggest JR should not have been the starter? There's no question the right guy was playing...and that's not a shot at Flynn.
So why the love for Ro and not JR? Because personality played a HUGE role for Ro, whereas JR was seen to fit the stereotype too easy used by some.
I really do appreciate what you're saying, and I hope you see my point. In no way am I suggesting that all of JJ's issue swith fan discontentment are race related...I can't make that any more clear. but at the same time, I think to not feel comfortable mentioning it at this time would be a disservice to the truth.

How about this then. We need a poll of who wants what qb to start and also who is pro or anti miles.

Regardless of race, there are tons of LSU faithful who give Lee ever single benefit of the doubt while trying to pin every possible negative outcome on Jefferson.
Why they do it is irrelevant.

Hyperbole doesn't suit you, I-59. Had I wanted to claim what you just suggested I did, I've had stated it plainly. In fact, I've gone out of my way four times now to state that it is by no means the only reason JJ takes shite.
This line gets overused here, but...you literally are better than this.

Most QB's look terrible at times during their first year getting action when they are a RS freshman. On the other hand you wouldn't expect a junior QB with a full year of starting experience to look as terrible as JJ did last year

Just 75%? I'd put it a good bit higher.
The fans might dislike numerous poor performances by any QB, not necessarily personally dislike a young man very few know. I don't know him, and if he plays I'll be pulling for him.

True. It has to be impossible for anyone to want JL to be qb and be pro miles. If you are pro miles and do not trust him to be starting the best qb we have you're an idiot.

A good 75% of the hoopla surrounding this bullshite incident came about because so many of our slack-jawed fans already hate him.
So, the police who reported to us everything we know about his alleged involvement in this case just chose to ignore the 'other' stories and tell us the ones that implicate him?
This isn't necessarily about JJ versus the world. It's about having a team that is stacked with an unreal amount of talent -- but lacks obvious leadership. Does anyone really think UF was that bad (talent-wise) last year?
Most interestingly, I haven't heard of any defensive leaders directly involved in this story. Where's the strength of our team?
Talent is one thing -- and leadership is another.
