Noticed he is no longer on the roster and couldn't find anything on the situation.

I think he’s taking a redshirt but could be wrong

redshirting
they removed all the redshirts from the roster online, probably some stupid ncaa rule
they are listed in the game program though

Trenton Lape, MJ Seo, Griffin Cooley and Dylan Thompson are all redshirting

Lape and Seo's seems to be injury related.

Austen Roellig and Derrick Mitchell are listed on the roster but unless I've missed it I dont think either has made an appearance in a game yet unless it was just on defense or as pinch runner. So they would be considered redshirts so far, but part of "Active" 40-man roster.

Dallas Dale II quit the team

Cooley, Lape, Seo, and Thompson are redshirting. There may be other guys that redshirt as well, but these four were decided before the official roster had to be submitted to the NCAA. In previous years Primeaux, Bronzini, Ruddell, Tripp Haddad, and Blaise Priester redshirted in similar fashion.

I think the only guys on the official roster we haven't seen yet are Paul, Mitchell, and Roellig.

Can only list 40 on your active roster, so they had to only have 40 guys show up there. I think Mitchell and Roellig are redshirting thus far even though they are on the 40 man (probably as insurance for injuries to others). The others like Seo, Lape, Cooley, Thompson had to get taken off the roster so it didnt go over 40 even though all 4 are here and just redshirting.

is the roster going back to 35 now that covid class is moving on or are they planning to expand it to 40 going forward?

Baseball roster rules are confusing as hell.

Does baseball have similar rules to football where they are allowed to play a certain amount of games and still redshirt?

no idea on baseball redshirting rules

Shores pitched all the way until sec play and I believe he got hurt in Tennessee game and he qualified for an injury redshirt.

Not sure how many games you can play and still qualify in baseball. Moffett pitched in one game all year and is listed as a soph.

It doesn't. In the case of injury in season, they'll make a determination as to whether an Injury Redshirt is warranted.

There is a movement to get rules like that put into baseball. The issue becomes how do you measure pitchers? Appearances, innings? Depending on how they set the rules, a guy could pitch all season and still redshirt.

I think a good start would be no conference game appearances, and then put innings/appearance caps on top of that.

I would like to see them able to play until the conference season starts. Give them that whole “pre-season”, so to speak, to show the coaches something. But a decision has to be made once the first pitch of the conference season is thrown.

There are probably problems with that that I haven’t thought of but it seems like it would be a solid system on the surface.

Jay Johnson has explicitly stated that the 16 position players who have played are the only ones they intend on playing so I assume the intention is to redshirt Paul, Roelig, and Mitchell as well barring injury or something changing.

I missed that, but that's good to know, thank you.

We could lose so many guys off the roster to the draft and running out of eligibility. I don't hate the redshirting. Jay seems to communicate openly with the players and takes the development of the entire roster very seriously.

Has Kade Woods played yet? Can't remember seeing him. I know we're deep in the pen but it seems odd that we took an SEC transfer who isn't playing

He threw an inning against VMI in that 27-5 blowout game and hasnt pitched since then. I dont know if it's injury related or he's just that far down the pecking order. The appearance wasnt great though, walked 2 and hit a guy in an inning of work.

With how lsu recruits, if you redshirt for non injury reasons, you have a tough hill to climb.

Guys like Zeb and Paul are set to lose another season. If you RS in year 1 you should prob bolt if playing time is important

My guess is redshirting isn’t the greatest path in baseball. Unlike football where young guys still need to get stronger etc the big time recruits in baseball or golf have impact right away

A current 1/1 candidate redshirted his freshman year at Georgia specifically to bulk up and get stronger.

There's outliers to every rule. This definitely isn't the norm.
