Kelly was/is a horse's arse. But his only "sin" was not meeting lofty expectations. He quickly cleaned up the mess Oregron left and never won fewer than 9 games in a season (not counting this year). It wasn't bad. Just not good enough, quickly enough.
Saban led LSU to a height no one really imagined they could get to. Then he left. In isolation, that may have been forgivable. But then he returned to the SEC and for more than a decade became THE impediment to LSU likely winning several National Championships. 2011, 2012, possibly 2015 (LSU was ranked No. 2 going into the Alabama game).

But I don’t think Kelly was hit with the same vitriol that Orgeron was… NOBODY likes Kelly. I get that, but the ones who didn’t like Orgeron HATED him
A common talking point was ‘Orgeron set this program back 5 years!!!’
I don’t get that same bite from the comments about Kelly

Hallman wears the crown. Kelly gave us a few moments (Jayden).Both had unlikeable personalities. Everyone else was basically likeable even if they had bad teams.

I get the record was not good against ranked opponents etc etc
but he did salvage this program from the dumpster fire that it was when he got here and you do have to admit that his first year with the win over Alabama and the SEC championship appearance was one masterful coaching job

I agree, in a way, about Curly. I didn't despise him (per the subject line), but I didn't like him. He seemed like a dullard who was in WAY over his head. He shouldn't have been given a 3rd year, let alone a 4th year. The writing was on the wall when we went 2-9 in 1992.
For me, it's a close tie between Hallman and Dinardo.

I don't believe the fan base hated Curley Hallman like they hate Brian Kelly! For me the difference is I hated that Curley Hallman was LSU’s Coach but I despise Brian Kelly as a person that happened to be LSU’s Coach!

Brian Kelly is a perfect illustration of the importance of the saying“Don’t burn your Bridges” on the way out. He is disliked/hated to varying degrees by 3 different university fanbases:
- Cincinnati, Notre Dame and now LSU…….

Don’t hate him or anything but collecting >$10mm a year & telling the fan base they are spoiled for questioning recurrent sloppy play was an all-time funny one though.

Easily my most disliked. Arrogant, lazy, and lying don’t go over well.
