With the fact that you only see 8 people in that picture, I rest my case.

people are going to argue about these damn mounds forever. and they are going to be there forever regardless if some kids slide down them or not

sure, you can complain about it on a web site, but in the end, keep your kids off the mounds, like LSU asks, or be prepared to be ticketed.

I didn't let my kids slide down last week. But it doesn't mean that the tree huggers are right.

I don't post often.. but Jesus Christ you are a huge PUSSY. I have never agreed with a single one of your posts. You are a liberal douche that has nothing positive to contribute to any meaningful conversation. I could write a book on things you have said that I disagree with but I felt calling you a douche was the most important.

You seem like a highly credible poster. One whos opinion we should all be concerned with.

I reformulated my argument on the significance of the site due to your post. I admit I was misinformed regarding the purpose of the sites. You are right they may not be burial grounds but your article still states they are thought to be built due to symbolic importance. Which I believe coupled with their age is enough to preserve them. But I think we are all agree on this fact.

However, the rest of my post is regarding the geology claims of the area's erosion and no longer about the archaeologists claims regarding the reason for construction. This is where I claim we should side on their conclusion.

Lets use extremes:
50 people on the mounds@ 80lbs each=4000 pounds
7-8 gamedays a year-28000-32000 pounds of wear per year

Lawnmower=1000 pounds
2 mowings a week=104000 pounds of wear per year.

Are the children a problem? Yes, but they should not be the geologist's primary concern.

Catman88 when you see signs that say please don't litter do you freak the frick out and cry about not being able to litter?

I am amazed that this is a big deal at all. It's not like they are banning alcohol on campus. LSU has the right to do it. Follow the fricking rules you assholes.

I will never understand the fuss about children not being allowed to slide down those mounds.

It wears them down, really fast.

bullshite.
I've slid down the mounds as a kid in the fricking 70s. It looks the same. My kids do it to this day.
There is no undue amount of erosion that I can tell.

2 mowings per week?

I don't know about you, but I surely don't cut my grass 8 times in December and January.

But yes, the kids are part of the problem, and LSU is trying to do something to curb the problem, but people have fricking hissy fits when they do.

In a post above, you can read about reasons for sodding the surface to reduce erosion. You may want to use scientific measures to detect erosion, not just your feeling.

You can teach your kids about the Indian Mounds. They may not slide down like you did. You can bring them around when the campus is not crowded. You can walk on it, sit, stand etc. Limit the stress.

Attn: Joe Alleva has sent out a letter!!!

The home game Saturday for LSU has been moved to Memorial Stadium. It was recently discovered that Indians once smoked a peace pipe on the ground that Tiger Stadium now resides on. We do not want to trample on this sacred ground. Thank you for your understanding.

Nice job. Way to preserve the beauty that is the LSU campus.

That's not ugly looking at all.
