I see a lot of people comparing their reaction to ours when Saban left. I think people are missing the point. We'll never forget when Saban left, and I wouldn't expect that Ole Miss fans will forget this. But there's a major difference between being upset and months/years later still occasionally talking about it (like we do with Saban), and melting down months later and making it the dominant topic everywhere you go. For years, if we saw Saban, we had something to say. But Ole Miss fans have something to say when there is no reason to bring it up. That's a level of obsession that I can't relate to.

Dude, our fanbase was absolutely constantly melting about Saban until the day he retired.

Think the difference is we weren’t in denial, didn’t claim to better off with Les.

Oh I’m sure there were plenty of LSU fans that believed Les was better.

there definitely were. There was some dude to claimed to be an LSU insider on the Lair back in the day who would post all the time about how much better off we were with Les and he would get lots of affirmation on it too.
But with time he lost credibility on that.

I've lived among this fanbase my entire life, and not once do I recall just being somewhere in the middle of nothing, and having people talking crap about Saban. Saban came up in conversation when he was on TV. We didn't forget, but we didn't lose our minds. And I don't need to be reminded that there are always some who will act crazy. I'm talking about our fans, in general.

Please try to understand the difference between "melting" and just not liking a guy. People throw that word around way too much.

You mean like LSU x Saban for the better part of the last 2 decades?

This will be 1000 worse.

Saban did not leave LSU for a rival. He left for the NFL and would have returned to LSU if Miles was not already there and having success. Lane left OM for its Rival before the season even ended.

LSU has the kind of program where even Les Miles and Ed O can win natties. Ole Miss does not. They will return to 60 years of irrelevance while LSU returns to the top after a brief skid.

The Ole Miss fanbase will never recover from this.

Exactly. Ole Miss are behaving just as LSU fans did when Saban joined Alabama.

Im just sad that Lane has forsaken social media. I get it, I would rather he focus on football, but him posting on social media would be glorious...

To be fair who legitimately thought Saban was going to go and become the greatest coach of all time? He had won 1 title and it was nice but there were no indications that he’d turn into what he did.

Everyone thought ok maybe he will win a title at Bama like he did LSU. Not 5

I’m old enough that as a 12 year old that had just been spoiled with an undefeated national champion, to be devastated by Paul Dietzel’s departure to his “dream job”, Army, after the 62 season. He had 9-1 seasons in 59 and 61, so it seemed like we were on a roll.

I’ll even admit to being pleased that he failed at Army, and South Carolina. He really hurt my feelings. So I can understand the OM fans, especially going to their hated rival.

But, I’m smiling.

like when Sabin left LSU and went to Alabama.

First, Saban left for the NFL.

Second, A lot of LSU hate for Saban come from him being a lying POS. He proclaimed the day before he announced he was taking the Dolphins job that he would be LSU's coach the following year. Said it while contract details were being finalized. Few years down the line and guess what he did to Miami........Iyt would have been easier if he had just shut up and took the job. He did however make up for some of it by saying LSU is the best job in college football.

To be fair Saban left LSU for the pros. Had Saban picked up Drew brees instead of culpepper bama may not have had all those titles. Still hurt as an LSU fan havig to watch him win big at Bama beating LSU on the regular doing it. Kiffin straight up left Ole miss for a hated rival though. That's got to sting more.
