We shouldn't need to be inspired. We're arguably the most prolific college football team in the last decade, are ranked #6 in the country, and are playing at home. The rationale for needing to be inspired relates to lack of confidence in our team and a fear of Alabama.

Then the OP does not apply to you. It is intended and relevant for folks who don't think as you do of which there are plenty in case you haven't noticed.

So you believe that Alabama is a superior team and the magic of Tiger Stadium will need to be evoked and the stars aligned in order for us to have a fighting chance?

I remember that game. LSU was called for a facemask penalty on a punt. USC got the ball back and drove for the winning TD. Sucked for sure.

I was at the game LSU was called for facemask on a third down play when they sacked the QB when there should have been a false start penalty on the Trojans when TWO linemen moved...

that same drive USC scored the winning TD with 32 seconds left...

And for that poster asking who was the QB for LSU it was Steve Ensminger and David Woodley...

A lot of people forget that despite the above, LSU's last play of the game was about a thirty yard pass into the end zone that could have been caught for the win.

That was the most awesome game atmosphere I ever experienced. It was so loud in the student section, you felt the contents of your stomach vibrating inside you.

Correct...LSU was able to drive to the USC 30 with time enough to make two throws to the endzone and both were incomplete...

LSU also had a TD pass dropped in the endzone in the third QTR of the game When they drove to the two yd line then lost 9 yds on a end around...they had to settle for the FG that made it 12-3...

17 years old and there with my dad, who is now gone.

All these years later and that game remains the most amazing sporting event I've ever witnessed live.

I was there, and it was the greatest football game I have ever participated in...and use the word "participate" as I felt as if I PLAYED the game because I cheered so hard during that game. I am sure the football players who played would not agree with my belief there. But, I have never seen Tiger Stadium that LIT UP (the liquor was flowing as they generally allowed it), and I doubt I will ever see it again even though I go to every home game! November 3rd could beat that 1979 game only if we bring home a win!

Good account of this game from a LSU players perspective in the book "It Never Rains In Tiger Stadium" by John Ed Bradley.

'79 USC... I don't believe the electricity in Tiger Stadium that night can ever be replicated. Greatest sporting event I've witnessed in 50 years. But if it's possible, then Bama in two weeks is the one.

Agree but would also add '71 Notre Dame as well - both games because those teams were thought of as "national powers" back then.
Things have changed now ... Look how we are received when we travel now, i.e. Oregon and W. Va. last year as examples.
The worm has turned, guys...be proud to be a part of it.

Walking up to Tiger Stadium a sign hung from a dorm room that read "USC SUC". At 12 years old it was the funniest thing I had ever read. I was numb with excitement.

Fans today are acting like we are the team from Hickory in Hoosiers.

LSU is a great team, and the coaching staff and team leaders will have them ready. There will be no repeat of 1/09/12.

What was the line on the LSU-USC game in '79?

I'm sure it will never be topped for me. It seemed to me that when USC was moving the ball north, they got as far as the 25-30 yard line and then they hit that wall of sound from the students and couldn't go any further. It was as if the sound itself pushed them backwards.

As for greatest of all time - I'll take the Miami team with Vilma, Shockey, Magahee, Dorsey, etc... 18 First Round draft picks.

I shouldn't have to even be saying this, but so many fair weather fans are already conceding the loss in a game that will have a pick em line or at most a couple of points either way. As stated on another thread, Saban took some of you guys' balls with him when he left.

I agree. Tons of pussies on this board. I can respect Saban for what he has done at both schools but I never count out lsu at TS at night.

In order to win this game, Bama would have to be like UF of 97 and do just about everything wrong, and we would have to capatalize on every opportunity they gave us.

That's just my opinion.

Ronnie Lott who played in Super Bowls and many other games both pro and college was quoted in the attached article on the TP.

quote:

But Lott, now a businessman in the San Francisco area, still speaks of the game in a kind of incredulous tone.Every one of us left that night saying 'that was a game, ' but I still think about it that way, " he said. "I haven't been in an event like that at any level of football. Out of all the games I've ever played in, I've never been in anything like that, and I am including my Super Bowls in that assessment."
