I'd bump my thread where I mentioned that we won't win games that we should because of our SHITTY defense but I'm not that much of an a-hole.

Wow. You really got bold with your prediction there, thank you for not bumping your original take that shitty defense would cost us winnable games

Nah. He was bad last year. His fielding pctg has dropped but it wasn't good before. He had 15 errors last season.

You seem to be having a problem with a subject that is not complex. I said he wasn't good last year but that he has regressed, mightily. Your response is that he was bad and made 15 errors last year? He's already got 10 right now, and he has been bailed out by official scoring on easily another 5, if not 10 plays that should have been errors. His reputation at short this year actually seems to be causing official scorers to give him the benefit of the doubt, as they don't seem to want to charge him with an error on much of anything that has a remote degree of difficulty.

He fielded .938 last year. He is fielding .886 right now. Do you know how big of a drop off that is?

Doughty made 8 errors all of last year, and already has 10.

Jack Merrifield fielded .987 at JUCO last year, and is at .879 right now.

Collier Cranford, who is known for his glove, has made two errors in his very limited action.

DiGiacomo had 0 errors in 50 chances last year, but already 2 in just 35 chances this year.

We've seen veteran pitchers look like they've never done PFP's, several times this year. That's routine stuff... LSU's fielding percentage is down 15 points from last year, and we have seen Thompson and Berry constantly bailed out by official scoring. The fielding percentage alone, which is already bad, doesn't at all tell the whole story of how bad it's been. If you don't see how much worse they've gotten from a year ago, you're either trolling; are a hardcore contrarian; or you don't actually follow the team.

the stats show that thompson has 10 errors on the year, which we all know is alot more than that, arkansas as a team has 18.So if your telling me he is the best LSU has and that everybody else on the team is so much worse that they dont even get a shot at it on a midweek game, Then how far has LSU Baseball fallen , and do the other infielders on the bench deserve to even put on the purple and yellow shirt.

I think coach JJ is more focused on hitting than fielding. If I'm JJ, i'm minimizing batting practice and hitting fungo missiles at them for hours at practice. The bat shouldn't go away from less BP, they're talented in that regard (except for thompson - it almost seems like his bat is too heavy for him)

He was bad. He's not improved and might have the yips.

He wasn't a good fielder last year, and you expected what this year?

He came in and tried to shore up the bats. There will be no overhaul during the season, I don't know what these people expect.

It will be addressed off season.

These are college kids, have some perspective.

My son is going to play (football) in college…I guess I just won’t read the message boards then. Kids make mistakes. Grown arse men giving them shite for how they play a game that they practice very hard for is just unreal.

I hear you. And your research would suggest there is a chronic problem. Though lack of defensive practice is not an issue right now, I wonder if it was an issue in the offseason. We don’t know.

You hit the nail on the head. Who are you going to bench Thompson/Doughty for, Bianco? He's worse then the other two, which is why he isn't playing either. We all saw this coming back in late February against Tech in Ruston. A leopard can't change its spots and this defense won't change which will keep this team from making a long run.

It doesn't piss me off bc I've already accepted the fact that our defense is probably going to prevent us from hosting a regional.

I'm expecting a 2 seed. It is what it is. I'd love to be wrong & host a regional though.

You’re letting the performance of a 20 year old ball player affect your daily functioning. Just to give some perspective.

We lost by 1 so every single player that got out and didn't hit a HR lost the game for us. Just sayin.

that game had to set the standard

What does this even mean? There's 3 games, you play all three, there is no setting the standard. Against decent teams this year LSU wins about 1 out of 3.

Shouldn't be on the field anymore until he figures out how to play defense

Do we really not have a single god damn player who can field a ground ball and make a throw at SS?
