Contracts are agreements. They can be RENEGOTIATED
so lsu who is 1/12 of the sec has the clout to renegotiate the billion dollar tv deal so they can play games at night. what a moron.

Why did CBS pick up the LSU-Ole Miss game instead of the Miss St-Arkansas game, where both teams will prob still be ranked in the top 25
Because LSU is a program people want to watch

I'm more sick of the obscene number of commercial timeouts during CBS broadcasts. THe guy with the red hat on spends enough time on the field that he should have his own page in the gameday program.
This.
I've long said, the NCAA should step in and say, we're dictating the timing of our sporting events, if you want to televise them as they are played and timed, be our guest.
I guarantee you, the networks could and would figure out a way to make the same amount of money, either way.
It's so freaking stupid as it is now.

Because one is still a bigger game, which will attract a bigger market, than the other.

YA, I don't like the commercials any more than you do.
However in order for CBS to pay the SEC the huge dollars they have to generate revenue. Thus the commercials.
I can only think of one way where you could watch a game without commercials and that would be PPV.

I think you're missing my point. I'm not saying NO commercials, I'm saying force them to structure the commercials around the natural time gaps in the game itself, and not the other way around.

sounds like someone needs to start a new website dedicated to putting pressure on CBS for 6pm or later kickoffs....
might not work, but what the hell...why not?

I understand what you're saying but I suspect the sheer number of commercials that they show makes it impractical. Just my .02

Here's my contention.
The football game is the product the network is selling to their advertisers.
The product is worth x number of dollars, no matter how it is divvied up.
Sure, it may be easier for the networks to say, we want to dictate how the game is timed and sell our advertising accordingly. But, I contend that if it were timed naturally, with normal breaks in between possessions and at quarter changes, the networks could structure it to make the same exact amount of money in selling advertising.

Yeah, that's what they should do. CBS can then turn around and say GFY no soup for you.

I'm not so sure that the 2:30 day slot is watched THAT much more than a 6, 7 or 8pm slot. To me, some of the hottest games are the late games. Remember the LSU vs Fla game in the swamp this year? You can't tell me that PLENTY of people were watching that night game all accross the country! To me the prime time slot is at night. I question the numbers on day vs night viewership.

Leave the SEC and take a vow of poverty.

I'm not crazy about the 2:30 games either....in fact I hate it but with the amount of games that now get televised, this has to be a huge recruiting tool. What better sell can you give a kid than he'll be playing on national TV nearly week in and week out? And the kid who says he wants to play close to home so his parents can watch? No problem kid....almost every game LSU plays will be on TV. So I'll take the 2:30 slot and realize it's just one more product of success.
But nothing...and I mean NOTHING....beats Saturday night in Tiger Stadium!

I'm sick of the complaining about CBS.

Maybe since our bitchy little fans just have to have night games, and since the SEC and CBS won't cooperate, we should just leave the SEC. Look how well it worked out for Tulane and their athletic program a while back...

While this is the topic of CBS. Depending on where LSU is ranked pre season (unless they're gettin rid of these worthless things) and we win our games I wonder if CBS will pick up the LSU vs Fla game for their primetime broadcast
Posted on 11/11/10 at 9:06 pm to Ghostfacedistiller
They are NOT putting Miss St on CBS. It's just not happening.
LSU vs Ole Miss is a old rivalry and always a good game. Why not pick it up?
