Woodland doesn’t suck. He’s just a true freshman. He’s going to be a good one.

Holding that offense to 27 is good ..that offense will average over 40 in the big 10. Riley's offenses always do.

So that’s the standard now? Just be better than the worst defense is school history?

Did you really expect an instant fix to the worst defense in school history. frick some of you don’t know anything about the game of football.

Just saying, it wasn’t good.

The betting sharps podcast I listened to traveling to Vegas said their favorite bet of the whole weekend was USC +4.5 and that’s because they said Blake Baker was a shite hire and Danton Lynn was the best one. They gave a bunch of stats to backup Bakers woes too that I never knew.

Read the same thing last night, we got killed last night when it mattered and USC shut it down on 3rd downs when it counted.

Im not disagreeing that Offense lost the game. But as it stands, this defense is nowhere near good enough.

I know it’s partly a talent issue currently, but whatever scheme he used last night was horrible. USC moved the ball at will

They had several big stops in the second half and some in the first half

This is just a completely false view of the game

I agree but that final drive defensively was piss poor I hate the bend don’t break/keep the ball in front of you mentality. At some point you have to press and get physical and go win the game. Jmo

I’ll give you this. Our secondary just isn’t good enough to stand up for a drive like that without some pressure on the QB. You have to send at least 5. That was a mistake.

every time USC wanted to move the ball, they did so easily: HUGE gaps in the zone. DBs are atrocious (not his fault)

So they didn’t want to move the ball during the failed attempts?

This may be dumbest post I’ve read today Did you watch a different game where our DL did live in their backfield and get pressure all night?

I know there are a bunch of new rules in college football. Did they start awarding additional points for moving the ball between the 20s?
come on, now.

Yards per play is probably the best statistic to judge a defense's performance. Yes, it should be used in combination with other stats, but it's a very important one.

Hypothetical: suppose a team moves the ball downfield all game long, in big chunks. But they fumble at the opponent's 1-yard line every time, and never score. But they gain 500 yards in the game on 50 plays.

Would you say the defense was effective, merely because there were no points scored?

Because overall the defense improved from last year.

The defense was improved. But anyone who thought it would be vastly improved in ONE game is a fool. They still have largely the same personnel…which, overall, is relatively average (compared to other SEC programs)

Last nights loss sucks. However, the apoplectic meltdown is mostly a byproduct of many LSU fans grossly overrating the roster going into the season. This likely isn’t a playoff team. That was the case 3 days ago. But fans being fans, many refused to accept that. Now they are in meltdown mode having to accept reality.

All of the top college football podcasts, analyst or betting, said Baker and Lynn and these two defensive staffs as wholes, were the best defensive hires of the last offseason. And they were right, because both defenses were greatly improved over what they showed last season.

Whoever you are listening to is evidently as stupid as you are.

The defense was much improved from last year. We would have sacrificed a goat to only give up 27 a game last year

You’re crazy if you don’t think our D gave us a chance. Compared to last year I’m am happy with that performance. Now they need to improve week by week. Still haven’t found a way to teach our DBs to turn around and find the ball…

There were fewer missed tackles than last year, but that's not saying much.

Probably good enough defense to win with great offense that can outscore the other team (like last year), but not good enough to win last night.

There isn’t elite talent on defense, so they played about as good as I could’ve expected. They got a huge stop and the offense proceeded to throw up on itself.
