Moving this over from the Score Board too.

Joe Burrow, our LSU quarterback, ladies and gentlemen.

This kid is the answer. I have no idea how people refused to acknowledge how big a deal this guy was going to be for our program.

He’s a coach’s son that was Mr Football from Ohio that has learned under Urban Meyer for over three years. You couldn’t build a more prototypical college QB if you tried, and he has the attitude of an absolute champion.

I said this is my other thread, but his addition to this program is the biggest paradigm shift since Nick Saban arrived in Baton Rouge.

I think E was wise to hold him back a bit last night against that D. But there will come a time when the leash is taken off, and we will all be witness when he is allowed to take over and carry this team to the promised land

I'll copy and paste (because I'm lazy) something I said about Burrow on the Score Board in response:
quote:

frankly, Burrow was a "playmaker"; we aren't used to seeing that. If anyone disagrees with that by looking at Burrow's stat line, they are missing the point. As much as Burrow was under pressure (5 hurries, what your eyes told you) he only was sacked 2 times. HE did a good job of avoiding rush AND when he did he put the ball in play, legitimately catchable, often in avoiding the rush. It's been a while since we've seen a QB who can do that. He sees the field really really well and has a feel for the pocket. That's one helluva foundation to build on.

Finally a QB with “football intelligence” coupled with athletic ability.

Stats aren't everything. His stat line would have looked a lot better without the 2-3 drops and the 4-5 intentional avoid-sack throw away passes. And that was a TD pass

Should have been 14-24 for 180'ish and a TD. And half of the 10 incompletions were on purpose.

I yelled it while Brosette was running for the first TD - Burrow put us into that play! He also forced 2 offsides, one for a first down. I am jacked up. We don't need 400 yards of wide open passing a game to win. We need a smart qb who is accurate and makes plays. We have him.

When he scrambled left, with a defender training, I got worried, but he got the ball out quickly.

Agree with you and I20.

It wasn’t the numbers, it was his command of the whole situation.

First start, top 10 opponent, aggressive defense, Sunday night prime time game in an NFL stadium, and the dude looked absolutely chill as frick.

Never flustered for a single second.

Even when we were a little discombobulated and burned three early timeouts there wasn’t a hint of worry or frustration. Just all part of the process of keeping the offense and team on track.

He is a leader, he is smart, and he’s a damn good passer to boot.

Burrow was pressured relentlessly Sunday night by the Miami D, yet was only sacked twice, had a few throw aways, and threw NO INTs. He also showed his football smarts by his reads, checks, and audibles.

That's the kind of smarts and awareness I expected of him all along, even though many had to wait and see to believe it for themselves.

Comparing this to a game I well remember as a Buckeye fan, with a lesser QB, that game could have easily been like the 2014 OSU-VaTech game and JT Barrett's college debut game where he threw 3 INTs and OSU lost by 14. Instead, Burrow made no mistakes that gave the other team any points and made plays that put points on the board.

LSU found it running back too, now the OLine needs to give Burrow more time, and his real ability as a passer will shine.

I'm expecting great things of this Tiger team.

Burrow is definitely an asset at a position which we're accustomed to having liabilities.

Most years, LSU has only been a QB away from being top a 10, and dare I say top 5, team. I think we've all become numb to it and so has the national media. Another day, another shitty LSU offense. It's been expected.

Looks like that may behind us.

I see some moron downvoted you.

Anyone who downvotes your post has to be an LSU hater or a Miami or Bama fan.

While not much to base this opinion on, I also felt like he would have moved the ball through the air in the 2nd half if we needed it.

I knew he was a coach's son but didn't realize his father was primarily a defensive coach. I like that subtle fact for some reason. Burrow also got 1-2 defensive offsides with creative snap counts.

OK, I'll stick my neck out there, so have fun.

I don't think you can say "He's the one" after that game. I think he did a great job of maintaining his composure and not panicking and making stupid mistakes. Now, does that mean he's great? Or did we just get so used to terrible decision making from our QB's that this makes him look like the next great thing?

There were some dropped passes, and some throws that could have been better, but it was the first game at that speed so I don't think that stuff is all that important yet.

The play calling was kind of vanilla, but maybe that was to let him ease into the game and we never really had to get away from that.

All and all, solid first start, but there is no way we can glean from that game how good he really is (or isn't for that matter). So to say "he's the one", is very much premature.

Miami DC Manny Diaz made it a point to note that in a pre-game interview.

It only adds to Burrowe's smarts in picking apart a defense. I bet him and his dad Jimmy Burrow have had many conversations where Joe learned a lot about how to do just that.

I enjoyed when a defensive lineman from Miami got in his face talking shite at just before the end of the first quarter and Burrow went face-to-face with him and talked shite right back. Would love to hear what he said back. This guy is hilarious with his California surfer dude care free attitude.

The only knock on him is that he does not have a cannon. That was the knock coming in and probably why he lost the job to Haskins.

He's not Danny Wuerrfel, mind you. Just average. But he is damn accurate AND has a super fast release, which overcompensates for his average arm strength.

Everything else is textbook what you want in a QB
