I'm just curious. In the last 30 years, how many LSU QBs had your complete confidence?

Guys you would say...you can win us games. If we lose, it's not on you.

Burrow
Mauck
Davey

I'm just going to leave Herb Tyler and Mettenberger off the list. I remember way more bad crap with Mett than good things.

So what...once a decade we find a competent QB?

I believed in Jamarcus Russell all the way to the end. It took until his JR year for him to hit his ceiling but damn that 06 team was great. Should have won a championship too!

Mettenberger.

The dude was a breath of fresh air.

Our offense finally put it together while the defense finally had a down year.

Before Burrow, this was the last time I felt like we had a chance to score every time we had the ball. If the defense had been even close to par for LSU we would've coasted to a ship with Mettenberger.

Which was a nice feeling.

I still rather have a QB I trust with a shitty defense than have no hope whatsoever with poor QB play.

Because they can still make the plays to win games.

And it's why I hope LSU hires someone that you don't ever have to worry about QB play.

Idk why people sleep on Mettenberger. He wasn’t burrow but he’s the best QB we have had since Flynn and went to the NFL.

Think about the rosters these guys played with. Especially offensive line and running back. Now think about the 2020 and 2021 rosters.

Rohan Davey and Joe Burrow, for me. Mauck was a guy I trusted to not do something stupid, but if he had to carry the team on his shoulders, he wasn't someone I counted on. Flynn was hot and cold with big turnover games, Mettenberger put up numbers and was good, but could go absolutely cold at the worst times, just like Jamarcus. Which makes my next point about Jamarcus: Just disappeared, at times. Herb Tyler was exciting to watch as a runner, but was an inconsistent passer.

All of those guys were quality in their own right, but only Burrow and Davey had my complete confidence in all situations. If LSU had a decent defense when Davey was here, he'd have won a NC.

Going back further:

Risher
Hodson
Davey
Flynn
Etling
Burrow

Herb Tyler wasn’t a good enough passer, but I’d go to war with him.

QB's that I know appeared in a game for LSU in that time period. If I missed anyone, sorry. Bold are the ones that I had complete (or atleast significant) confidence in at some point in their career for more than one or two games.

Chad Loup
Jamie Howard
Herb Tyler
Josh Booty
Rohan Davey
Marcus Randall
Matt Mauck
JaMarcus Russell
Matt Flynn

Andrew Hatch
Jarrett Lee
Jordan Jefferson
Zach Mettenberger
Anthony Jennings
Brandon Harris

My rub with Mett was not his arm, but pressure combined with his inability to escape it, was a huge issue at clutch time. I judge the greatness of LSU QB's in the ability to beat the gumps in the saban era, Mauck, Jefferson and Burrow only ones that come to mind.
