Stingley will not play offense this coming season.

There are a lot of "fans" wanting and hoping that he takes some offensive snaps so that he can have a shot at the Heisman. Its not happening.

The Stingley family has been business oriented since day 1. There is nothing wrong with that. Objective: get to the NFL and make money.

Stingley has already solidified himself as a top 5 draft pick. He can do very little to improve his stock. Their goal for this season...get through as many games as possible without an injury. The SECOND he gets nicked up, be prepared for him to opt out for the remainder of the year. The same goes for if LSU loses 1-2 games early on.

Playing offense will only increase his chances at an injury. Therefor he will not take any significate snaps.

Economics 101: Risk vs Reward

If Stingley trots on the field for an offensive play, he will only be a decoy. He wont touch the ball or be put in a position to receive any additional contact.

Now that i have put the Stingley playing offense talk to bed...lets move on to something else.

I can agree with him not playing on offense, although I think he would be legit.

However, I distance myself completely from this type of mindset. That is weak, in my opinion. If you think you are that damn good then don't play at all and enter the draft. When half the team adopts this same mindset, you are no longer a team. And you are taking up resources from other players who want to leave it all on the field for the Tigers.

LSU football is what it is because of what the great players did at LSU, not in their pro careers.

Why do people want him to play offense? Based on his punt returns he doesn't seem electric with the ball in his hands.

O said in an interview last year on OTB that on his recruitment they talked about two years strictly on Def and his last year playing both ways. This may have been from Sting Sr himself.

I disagree that he will be Top 5 pick if he opts out. Last year, players could lean on COVID as a justification for opt out. That will not be the case this year. Players need to show they can get nicked, rehab, and come back; not quit. I don't think his 2019 performance will carry him to the top 5 pick in the 2022 draft.

ETA: My comment is just pertaining to him potentially opting out at any point; not about his opportunity to play both ways.

It was both.

Coach O said it on OTB. Pops confirmed it on later on OTB

Not saying plans have or haven't changed, but this isn't a TD fantasy. It was actually a plan

Ah, “fans” in quotes. A staple of bold, edgy posting.

If Stingley is needed on offense to win a game, he'll play.

The coach will not needlessly play Stingley both sides of a ball all game.

Stingley will selectively play on offense with devastating results exacted upon LSU's opponent.

I cant see the need to risk getting the guy hurt. Its not like LSU doesnt have enough weapons. They just need to figure out the pecking order of receivers.

I think the thing with Stingily playing offense is he just hasn't really been that explosive of a playmaker with the ball in his hands on PR so I dont see a lot of reason to risk having him play both ways.
