Be thankful you get to pull for a team that plays multiple high profile games a year.

They can easily set some OOC scheduling guidelines.
I really wish this were the case, but the conferences are not going to give up schedule control to the NCAA. And its a pointless exercise if it is not done across all of college football. Until that is done, the only obvious path at this point is to play shite OOC games against shite teams to ensure the least number of losses possible to appease the CFP selection committee. And its a shame as it only hurts the fans of college football.

Yea during the Miles years we generally scheduled better than average opponents Week 1, and won those games. But losing the last five openers has soured LSU fans toward anyone stronger than a cupcake. Instead of Clemson back to back, why can't we open with Duquesne. Or Sacred Heart. Or Drake. Or Furman, like Ole Miss. Or Tennessee Martin.
The current schedule pattern just sucks

it's unnecessary. sorry, not sorry, i want the best possible way for LSU to make the playoffs in today's college football.
LSU starts slow and a potential loss early on can be the difference. LSU under BK gets better after week 1.

I’d much rather play a strong regular season schedule with a smaller chance of getting into the playoffs than a garbage regular season schedule and a guarantee that the exciting games will only come if we make the playoffs. This is the same crowd that used to whine about Florida being our permanent opponent. Be thankful you get to pull for a team that plays multiple high profile games a year.
don't give a frick about florida. i rather not see LSU continue to lose openers that are not necessary in today's college football. they play enough of a schedule. why risk losing week 1? it's incredibly deflating for the season to open up with less margin for error.
that's great you want to be all macho and tough guy. i would rather be more practical and understanding that the team grows a lot from week one to week two under BK. i want what's best for LSU and starting out with an L is never ideal.

People with your line of thinking are the same people bitching if we don’t get in the playoffs if we lost this game and would celebrate if we got in the playoff for not playing this game. You are a moron.

Nut up is one thing. Being stupid and costing ur school money and prestige is stupid. Nothing to gain

which i would be much more thankful for that opporutnity than being so macho about who we lost to all year.
much rather play meaningful games in the playoffs.
the SEC schedule is always good enough. especially in a 12 team playoff.
why put yourself at a potential disadvantage week one?
i'm sure LSU will probably beat Clemson, because they are due to win an opening game, but it's not necessary to start the season with these games.

Me too. Forget national championships. If we are not good enough to beat these teams on opening day, then we are not nearly good enough for a national championship. After that, it’s just about having fun, and those opening day big games are a blast.

Exactly. What LSU needs to do is low-ball its rivals in OOC scheduling. Bring back our rivalry v. Tulane and make that our big OOC game each year; alternate between Tiger Stadium and the Superdome. Schedule no P4 OOC games. And when Arkansas opens with Ark- Pine Bluff, we need to start out with Ouachita Baptist. Ole Miss vs Furman? LSU opens with USC Upstate. Tennessee vs Akron? LSU vs Kenyon.
That's how it's done, folks.

It’s insane how stupid LSU fans have gotten. You want to try and be in the playoffs. 5 teams in the playoffs have a SOS less than 50…they now have a chance to win a national championship. Why the Hell would you want to play hard OOC games? You have to be mentally challenged to WANT to play an opening game on the road vs a top 10 team

Has nothing to do with being scared. What is the payoff for the game?
Posted on 12/8/24 at 7:17 pm to Circumlocution
There is some soft, cowardly bs in this thread. And a lot of doomerism “Oh Kelly has never won a season opener at LSU”. So? That doesn’t mean he’s incapable of winning a season opener.

We’d be an elite G5 team. Put us in the American with Tulane. We’d have a true rival and we’d be done with SEC politics that consistently keep us out of the playoffs.
yeah, that annual $8 million AAC payout to conference members will surely pay the bills of an elite athletic department. Forgoing a $50+ million dollar SEC conference annual payout is the dumbest idea espoused by the tards on this forum.

And that’s the heart of it.
If they can’t beat these teams, then how will they win a playoff game? By all means…let’s sit through wins agains cupcakes and thump our chests about how great they are so we can melt when they get waxed in their first playoff game when they play a real opponent.
Or…if they can’t beat USC or Clemson, then how will they win enough in the SEC to get to the playoffs.
Y’all are delusional.

If You're Smart, Say You're Smart
Why play the game if the risk is materially more than the reward relative to the CFP entrance?

Everyone knew if Clemson won bama was out. Bama had 2 really bad loses. People seem to forget that part. SMU was in even if they lost. Like it, hate it it is what it is.
Go play Clemson on the road if you win your ahead of the game, if you lose everything is still in front of you. After losing to bama, usc we still had a path. The opening loss did not knock us out of the playoff.

If our coach can't get us ready to dominate Clemson on day 1, then how the heck is he going to get us ready for a playoff run
A team at the beginning of the year is often light years behind where they can be at the end of the year…especially if a number of players are inexperienced. I think it’s reasonable to want to ease into the SEC schedule considering the SOS isn’t highly regarded anymore.
