My son is playing travel baseball right now. They high five, and chest bump and jump on each other to celebrate when they win. So YES!

If my son was fit and 20 years old I’d have no problem with him participating in sports at LSU.
He isn’t at risk and LSU has proven to me that they put the welfare of the athletes first and are doing right by the athletes.

Gonna catch it regardless.
I stopped paying attention a while back, is this the argument the “don’t take away my freedom” crowd is going with now?
The old “doesn’t matter what we do” argument while simultaneously not doing anything. Classic.

He wouldn’t risk much in terms of his own safety but what if he gets it and kills his grandma via Covid or if he gives it to someone who has a high risk person living in their home.
I want football and think it can be done safely but the people acting like the only person you put at risk with your choices are yourself are being willfully ignorant.
Also, I’d let my son play. (Especially if he was a HS senior cuz you can’t get that year back.) But I’m not gonna sit here and act like there isn’t any risks involved.

Near zero risk.

My son begins his D1 College career this fall I hope. We are all in the community everyday. Shopping, getting gas, food, etc. got to be mindful and as careful as we can. Most colleges hv a plan in place to help reduce the chances while some college sports are more prone to this virus than other sports due to the direct physical contact unfortunately.

I guess that’s because you are one of those people that believe everyone should get a trophy. If you had a son you should encourage him to be in the band or maybe a cheerleader

Where was your vacation at?
In these times of Doxing, without scrubbing my post history, I'd rather not say.

It was a heavily populated area though.

So how long are you going to seclude the family in a no social activity bubble? Including school, church, playing with friends, going to stores, and anything else you can possibly come up with.

Hell yes I'd want him playing ball this season

Grandma's at a higher risk whether he plays football or not. For me the question is - is playing football a higher risk for the kid than if he were not. What would he be doing if he were not. Would he be locked in a closet, never coming out.
I honestly think the protocols they have to go through to play, the constant testing, the medical attention put them in a safer environment than they would be in the lives they would be leading without it.

These kids NEED to do something. They have effectively been under house arrest since mid March.

Unless my kid had an underlying condition, I'd want him and the rest of the team that aren't at risk to get it NOW. I'd want to be assured that there are doctors and facilities on campus that monitor the players over a 3-4 week period in case any player gets sick and needs care.

It would not be an automatic yes let him play for me but I’d lean that way if it were safe for him AND our family.
I’d want to know the testing protocol. I’d want to know if immediate family could participate in the testing protocol. I mean if my son played the best game of his life, I’d want my dad to be able to hug him, his grandson after the game.
Will that be possible? Will there be other conditions or protocols not necessarily a “bubble” like the NBA but something in place to protect my son.
Look we all know that the risk of a 20 year old from becoming symptomatic is very low and and even lower that a 20 year old with no underlying condition die from this. This isn’t the concern.
But there are people in my family and nearly every family that are older and have underlying conditions. Safety for all is also a concern.
I have an elderly family member obese and with diabetes. We don’t have him locked in the basement but we do try to go to Walmart for him and we try to take reasonable safety precautions.
It’s not perfect and no one can 100% eliminate risk for him.
So I’d think about that a bit and want to know that not only my son but our family is protected as well. And again I’m not saying 100% protection NBA bubble but some reasonable protection.
All that said if my son wanted to play and LSU\SEC were trying to protect him and our family I would yes.

Yes. Especially if he was a draft eligible junior or a senior this season and had a legit opportunity to get drafted and make a career/living out of playing the game. This virus isn't a threat to these young healthy young men. They get it and it's nothing. They will have to be quarantined for a couple weeks if they do somehow come down with it, but it's not lethal to their demographic at all.
