re: If you were a football player, why would you not get Covid now on purpose?

quote:OK, that's a good example. Like I said - I think I might try to get it out of the way to avoid such things. However, it seems like in a world where we're still that sensitive to it, we're just not even having football.
You are neck and neck with another player for a starting position. The week of game one, you test positive. You go in quarantine for two weeks, he gets to start and practice for two weeks.
You’ve ultimately lost the job.
Question back at you: would knowing no spectators in the stands be allowed change your opinion as the player?

FIFY (just as likely to happen)

You do realize that COVID kills people, right?
And, the book is still open on whether or not you can get it more than once.

If you’re a guy that leaves shite to chance, then rock on.
I’m not that guy.

May be the dumbest thing ever posted on here.

Lots of things kill people. The death rate for a young healthy person is near zero.
If fact, the death rate for healthy people under 60 is near zero.
And nearly everyone is going to get it. So, if you’re going to get it anyway, why not control the variables to your own benefit.

You need to stop getting all your news from JBE press conferences. There are no proven double infections that I’ve been able to find. Please link the ones you are apparently aware of. I’ll gladly stand corrected.
There were early false cases, but those were dead virus that was still triggering the rapid tests.

Great addition to the discussion. Don’t go out on a limb and share some rationale.

Even if it doesn't kill you, its severity and serious symptoms (nand potentially long-term effects) are so random that I don't think I'd take that chance.

I get what the OP is saying; "get it and get it over with, recover and play ball". I'm sure some are doing exactly that, somewhere.
But like this says
But like this says
quote:I wouldn't. We just don't know yet, what it does long term. Between that and the (small) risk, and the (larger) risk of spreading it to a more vulnerable loved one, I'd just hold out and try to avoid it.

Bump.
Is there any doubt that this happened, especially at LSU?
Smart move by smart people.

Lots of things “could” happen.
The odds of a college football player dying of Covid is almost statistically non-existent.
There have been thousands of positives thus far in college football. I’m not even aware of a hospitalization.
As of this week, according to the CDC, there have been 333 deaths nationwide in the 15-24 age group.
This includes people with comorbidities.

Maybe they don’t want to infect an elderly family member.

Agree. Chicken Pox party in July would have been perfect.

Because they asked Travez Moore. He went from 265 lbs to 229 lbs. No appetite & hard to eat. Could not taste or smell food. Not my words but from an elite college athlete that had Covid. That sounds like loads of fricking fun. No he didn’t die and if that is the only metric we are using then maybe we should all go get Covid & have a Merry Christmas.
I think LSU football staff is keeping these kids as safe as possible but you never know.

In order for some schmoe to get COVID he would end up with a gigantic dose. That could make an otherwise harmless disease deadly.

Because I don’t know anyone who has or ever had covid.
You have to be lying. I know at least a dozen, including my brother, my son’s best friend, a former business partner of mine, and all three of their wives.
These are just people who I know well; I know of two dozen others who I’ve met before. Two of those died of it. They were both old and sickly, though.
COVID-19 is not overly deadly - just about twice as much as flu - but it is extremely contagious. Whether you realize it or not, you know dozens of people who have had it.

I certainly did.
You did not post a link countering his claim, which is that we don’t have a clear picture of the immunity situation. You DID post a link supporting YOUR claim, that we have no proof of double infections. As is often the case, people who want to argue will find something to argue about.

No proof of immunity
Won't no proof of anything with this crap. EVERY thing has risk. Eliminating risk is impossible. All the "maybes" are nothing more than that. Getting it now,if it's eventual, is as good of a play as anything if you are in top health.

because you take it home and kill your grandmother.
What’s killing granny is having to isolate for a year. If we had done as Sweden did we would have herd immunity, and granny could have her life back.
One of my best friends father-in-law lost an eye to glaucoma because he could not get checkups due to the lockdowns. His other eye is in jeopardy, although it seems like it will be okay. Old people are suffering terribly because we are delaying herd immunity. I can see my elderly next door neighbors from my kitchen. They haven’t left their house in months. It’s heartbreaking.
BTW, I have not met my 3 month old grandson because of the lockdowns. He’s in England.
