If you had to list the top LSU HCs ever, would O be in your top 5?

For me, I would have to say yes, simply because he won LSU a NC and put together a team that many consider the best LSU football team ever and one of the best college football teams of all time by many across the country.
Sure, after winning the NC, he reverted back to his old ways of chasing women instead of focusing on the football team, but you have to give him credit for what he accomplished on the field.

Saban - 48-16 (75%); 3-2 Bowls; 1 NC
Dietzel - 46-24-3 (66%); 2-1 bowl; 1 NC
Mac - 137-59-7 (70%); 7-6 bowl record
Miles 114-34 (77%) 8-4 bowl record; 1 NC
Arnsbarger - 26-8-2 (76%); 0-3 bowl record
Orgeron - 51-20 (72%); 5-1 post season; 1 NC
I'd put O ahead of Arnsbarger. Hard to put him above Charlie Mac because of his longevity. You could argue him ahead of Dietzel based on results, but O had better resources in place when he took over.

2019 and a New Years Day bowl win trump two New Years Day thumpings to Nebraska.

Wasn’t there a LOT less bowls in the 50s? I asked Grok
quote:
In 1959, there were nine NCAA-sanctioned, team-competitive college football bowl games for the 1959–60 postseason (played December 1959–January 1960). These included the Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Gator Bowl, Sun Bowl, Tangerine Bowl, Bluebonnet Bowl, and Liberty Bowl. This count excludes four all-star games (like the Senior Bowl) and lower-division bowls, as the term “college bowl games” typically refers to these major invitational matchups. The number had grown from eight in 1958, with the Bluebonnet and Liberty Bowls debuting that year.

O is 100% deserving. Sheer domination doesn’t just happen. It took planning and putting the right people in positions to succeed.

Hell yes because he was totally responsible for that 2019 magical season

All he had to do was not be retarded and he could have gone down as an all time great. That was it.
Instead he hinged his career on Bo Pelini because of a defense he coached 15 years prior that was no longer relevant, Jake Peetz because he shared a booth with Joe Brady, and Daronte Jones because everyone else told him no.

I would absolutely take Daronte Jones over 2020 Pelini and Matt House

For all his faults, O had the one of if not the best college teams ever. He deserves top 5

Easily. Greatest team and single season of all time.

you misspelled COVID, OPT OUTS, BLM, etc.
AND players admitted in interviews as to QUITTING on Bo and O.
epic fail son. but nice try spinning it.

None of those coaches hired coordinators without interviewing them with the sole purposes of running a scheme that hadn't been relevant for 10+ years and immediately giving up the most passing yards in conference history.
You also forfeit all excuses when you yell about "da attackin 4-3" for an entire offseason and spout off about how your defense was better than the year prior because your ego got in the way. I don't remember any of the aformentioned coaches having to go out of their way to bash their old assistants after they took P5 head coaching jobs - which of course is the obvious and known goal of all of these guys.
quote:Weird, other schools didn't have players quitting on their coaches. Maybe it's because those coaches weren't as bad and as inept as Orgeron was?

Any reason you're leaving out the other hires, recruiting failures, and personal decisions Orgeron made following the title?

Since 1958:
1. Saban
2. Dietzel
3. McClendon
4. Arnsparger
5. Miles
6. Orgeron
7. Kelly
8. Dinardo
9. Stovall
10. Archer
11. Hallman
Coulda, woulda, shoulda been - Bo Rein
May switch Dinardo and Kelly....Dinardo tried. I might move Miles up ahead of Arnsparger too just because of the length of service and title.

I would have only one name on the list. That would be "EdO". Skip, Saban, Miles, Manieri, Mulkey, Pokey, Sue's Guther and Cholly Mack would not even be on it.
Why? Because Ed speaks like us, walks like us and rarely stops to think, just like us.
