They win the natty

I really don't get why LSU fans just assume we would've beaten a really good UGA team that Bama needed a ton of luck to win.

Exactly. The LSU team that scored 12 against 3-9 Auburn, 6 against Florida, barely beat 4-8 Arkansas and 7-6 Ole Miss, and lost to Clemson was locked in to beat 11-1 Georgia had we just tacked TJ Yeldon.

I never saw him play a down but I know that the good people of Louisiana supported his pro career and he raised a family here. But when you have kids and grandkids that excel at football and you don’t give LSU a second thought when they get ready for college, I don’t care for you.

Game-by-game numbers of interest. TLDR: we dominated turnover margin and had significant non-offensive points (ie not XPs, but FGs, pick-six, KO return, etc) in a lot of games. Actually lost total yard margin in several wins that year, it just didn't matter because of turnover margin and significant non-offensive points.

Not counting XPs as "non-offensive points":

vs ORE (W 40-27): -62 total yard margin, +3 turnover margin, 12 non-offensive points (PR, 2x FG)

vs NWSt (W 49-7): +295 total yard margin, +0 turnover margin, 0 non-offensive points

vs Miss St (W 19-6): +168 total yard margin, +1 turnover margin, 12 non-offensive points (4x FG)

at WVU (W 47-21): -167 total yard margin, +4 turnover margin, 6 non-offensive points (KR)

vs UK (W 35-7): +193 total yard margin, +1 turnover margin, 6 non-offensive points (FUM)

vs UF (W 41-11): +240 total yard margin, +2 turnover margin, 6 non-offensive points (2x FG)

at Tenn (W 38-7): +144 total yard margin, +2 turnover margin, 3 non-offensive points (FG)

vs Aub (W 45-10): +145 total yard margin, +2 turnover margin, 9 non-offensive points (INT, FG)

at Bama (W 9-6, OT): -56 total yard margin, +0 turnover margin, 9 non-offensive points (3x FG)

vs WKU (W 42-9): +248 total yard margin, +0 turnover margin, 2 non-offensive points (Safety)

at OM (W 52-3): +263 total yard margin, +3 turnover margin, 15 non-offensive points (INT, FUM, FG)

vs Ark (W 41-17): +240 yard margin, +1 turnover margin, 12 non-offensive points (PR, 2x FG)

vs UGA (W 42-10): -59 total yard margin, +3 turnover margin, 12 non-offensive points (PR, INT)

In 8/13 wins that year, either the defense forced a safety or the defense or special teams units scored a TD.

The offense wasn't quite as awful as we remember (the passing game was though lol)... it's just the gaudy scores were inflated by historically good defense + great return unit

1, 2011 LSU Alabama 21-0 would have produced a NC for LSU

2. 1969 LSU Ole Miss 26-23 would have tied LSU with Texas for the best record and allowed voters to decide the NC. Also would might have paired LSU vs TEXAS in the Cotton Bowl.

Without question the last one.

You could also add 1959 Tennessee.

Even though 1979 was a gut punch 2011 is the answer.

For me I want to say 1969, but I’m still peeved that Les Miles didn’t throw Jarrett Lee out there. Had Lee sucked as bad as Jordan, then I wouldn’t be so pissed we lost that game.

79 USC.

I was only in the 4th grade, but I remember it and it still pisses me off.

What a stupid thread. As if there is any debate about the answer.

That USC game was the first one I ever attended. I was a 10 year-old scout usher and vividly remember 2 things: women didn't wear bras and Tiger Stadium was loud AF. Been hooked ever since.

Only answer. It’s the only game you can change that results in a national championship without other factors having to occur

how could anyone vote for any game other than 2011, when a win would be another Natty.

We won that game 3 times. We didn’t even drop in the polls.
