And gotten somebody with no ties to LSU who was young, fiery, but a little unproven (like a PJ Fleck type) and we started out this bad, would he get more slack than Coach O?

Yes because O was here already. An outsider would get the benefit of the doubt getting adjusted to new surroundings and getting everyone to buy into his system. O was supposed to take our proven system to the next level and so far he has almost single handedly destroyed it in 5 weeks

Yes but we wouldn't be 3-2. Only incompetence loses to Troy.

Coach O actually had an audition, which most coaches don't get. He flunked the audition, but our idiot AD still hired him and gave him millions. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt like someone new would.

Yes he would have gotten more slack. I really like Fleck by the way. In fact , I've been using some of his leadership philosophy at work recently and it's been well received.

But to answer your question- yes.
Fleck has something Orgeron does not ...a proven history of winning.

Jeff Brohn would've been the guy. Go check out how things are taking shape at Purdue

Absolutely would get more slack. Look at Texas after going 1-2. The team lost to Maryland in an ugly way, comes back and shuts out a San Jose State teams, then battles it out with beautiful defensive play against the #5 team in the country and loses in OT. Then, Thursday their defense dominated Iowa State defensively who scored over 40 points in each of their previous games. No one is mad at Tom Herman here in Austin for going 2-2. If Strong went 2-2 everyone would want him dead.

Hell yes , Brohm is a helluva coach.
His name was brought up here prior as one of the infinitely better choices than what we ultimately arrived.

I like Brohm. I still think Mike MacIntyre is a hell of a coach.

How do you not even interview and talk to any of these Coaches before deciding on Gumbo?

Seriously, that's incompetence of the highest order and shows just cause for termination based on Negligence/Gross Negligence!

As my username indicates, I didn't go to LSU, but I do follow them and usually pull for them. I want them to win, really. But as a guy looking from the outside in...

I would think that LSU is one of the top 5 coaching jobs in the country, in ANY sport, college or pro. I cannot for the life of me understand why you guys can't recruit, interview and hire a better candidate than EO. Or LM for that matter. You had the Godfather and you lost him. Help a transplant Yankee understand, because I don't. I can only hope this season doesn't turn into the abortion it appears it's going to.

No top tier coach wants any part of an SEC team right now. You have to beat Bama in the SEC west regular season, just to get to the SEC championship game and then play them again in the playoffs. If you coach an sec east team you possibly could play Bama in the regular season and The SEC Championship game. Say an SEC east team beats Bama in the SEC championship game. You might just turn around and play them again the in the playoffs.
Who wants to deal with that shite. Plus Saban will poach the best players in your state.

Imagine this is the Coach you're interviewing -

PJ Fleck Part 1

PJ Fleck Part 2

I came away extremely impressed.
