Next year might be quite the step back without Burrow and Brady

it's going to be a step back with Brady and without Burrow

we'er going to have to learn how to develop QBs. it's actually somewhat similar to Miles' tenure (but with easier transfer rules that may help us avoid the issue, like OU)

what Burrow did and how it all happened was generational. it's not going to be often that we're going to get a super talented guy with A+++ leadership who gets groomed for 3 years by one of the greatest coaches and offensive minds in CFB history

My only worry is that one year isn't enough to establish an offensive identity. That might be a remote concern if we commit to this offense going forward regardless of who the playcaller.

I totally agree, but it’d be pretty feckin sweet to have Brady two more seasons for continuity

if this is what we're going to be (and i hope it is), then we can find a replacement for Brady, esp with SE around to help bridge things

That's fair. There's no doubt that Coach O has taken a completely different approach to coaching this year with the offense and the team's aggressiveness. That's a huge credit to him to be able to change this late in his career. We can only hope that the trust factor is there with the replacement coaches. As you say, with Ensminger here that should smooth the transition.

oh yeah i don't want him to go but if he does i'm not flipping out.

now if he does and O changes his mind again, we're fricked

The thing is, sure, O can get another guy, but it’s whether or not the guy’s system works. After many years, we finally got a good one. If would suck to lose him already.

God I hope this is our offense going forward. It would be so pointless not to commit to this offensive style.

THE most important thing LSU did was start throwing vertically to extremely talented players. We’ve always had great receivers, with no scheme to get them the ball. We are also dismissing how historically good Burrow is.

Brady brought in the passing concept which nobody has yet stopped but you say it is nothing special.

These passing concepts are not unique. It’s not rocket science. Anyone can look at film and see what we’re doing. You change out Joe Burrow for Mettenberger and there would be no Heisman, no Bilitnicoff, no best OL and no championship.

This is not mostly due to scheme. LSU has an extraordinarily talented and experienced offense. Watch where these guys are drafted. For years we’ve grown accustomed to having NFL players at all 11 defensive positions but only NFL level talent at WR and RB, with an occasional offensive lineman. There have been years in which we had zero NFL caliber offensive linemen. Not anymore.

We had all of the same players last year and Burrow didn't throw a touchdown in a month. Yes, experience helps some but not enough to have the biggest turnaround on offense that anyone can remember. There's a reason that Brady won the Broyles award and is being pursued as an OC in the NFL. His scheme and drills unlocked the potential of the talent on the team.

You don’t go from completing 57% of your passes as a Jr, to completing 77%, CFB’s all time highest single season total, because the “WRs & OL improved ”

What kind of clown shite is that?

The good news here is if Brady does bounce, we should be elite on defense next year. The dudes we have coming in combined with the defenders we have should be exciting to watch.

I'm looking forward to whoever calls the plays because offensively he has Chase, Racey, Marshall, Gilbert/Moss.....its insane the talent he has to work with when you think about the Rb position as well.

Do not under estimate the intelligence and coaching ability of a good offensive coordinator. In theory you are correct but does being elite mean being in the playoffs year in and year out or does it mean losing 2 games every season and starting off being ranked in the top 10? A great coordinator can put you over the top with the talent LSU recruits.

Yeah, Burrow started the year completing 50% of his passes, and he was completing 65% towards the end of the year. That improvement had nothing to do with Brady, and it obviously would have been even better this season had Brady not been hired. We’ll never know (thank God) but I’d guess Burrow would have been at about 70% this season without Brady just based on last year’s trajectory.

We’ve always done that. Miles did it. It was pretty much the only passing we did.

yeah i don't see how we're elite on D next year unless some young guys who haven't played are elite already

next year is going to be a bumpy road (like 9-10 wins now playoff contention). we just haven't recruited at a level to plug and play (yet)

i'm not saying we can put ANYONE back there. i'm saying Brady isn't so elite that he's not replaceable
