re: If there is one improvement you want out of Coach Kelly next season, what would it be?

Get the play call in faster! And hurry the offense up on occasion. We could have won one or two more games going tempo and avoiding delay of games and time outs.

I hate to say this but... be more Kirby Smart-like.... His teams are consistently the best coached, they are all prepared, and by all... I mean the backups come in and execute, not just the starters. He builds kids up on the sidelines and isn't constantly seen only climbing asses. That is just a bad look all around.

Fill holes in the roster with high end players

He has to start getting this team more motivated to play. Plain and simple. We have lost a couple of close games with him but the majority of our losses with him have been pretty big beat downs. Where is the fire?

Have the defense ready week 1; no more "oops" busted assignment long TDs on the D.

"better prepared".
Way to really drill down to the specifics there.
For me, I want see a greater/quicker willingness to adjust when the approach they are taking may not be working. Not just simply changing the personnel and asking them to try to execute a poor approach.
Last year it was clear early on the defense had some personnel issues. However, LSU never really adjusted the approach. They simply tried new people to do the exact same thing. They just tried to play a "bend but don't break" defense...that always broke. They would have been better suited just being aggressive and trying to affect the QB. Yes, they would have gotten beat a few times a game with big plays. But that was happening anyway, so why not try a different approach
This year it was pretty clear early on the running game approach simply wasn't working. Yet, LSU never adjusted. They just changed backs. Sure, Durham had some good moments, but it wasn't consistent. That could have taken some of pressure off of Nuss of feeling like he had to be perfect and/or constantly make the big play. It also would have helped a ton in the redzone. Likewise, Nuss showed he wasn't going to be a willing or effective runner. So why not take that out of the equation instead of continuing to demand he do something he wasn't good at.
Go back to 2021. LSU couldn't run the ball to save its life. I think TDP had the lowest ypc average in the SEC for the first half of the season. Then, vs. Florida, they completely changed their approach to the running game. The result was TDP setting a single game rushing record and rushing for 1000 yards that season. Same thing happened on defense. LSU wasn't a particularly good defense for the first 2/3rds of the season. Then vs. Alabama they completely changed the approach and suddenly become one of the best defenses in the SEC down the stretch. Damone Clark goes from being a punching bag for LSU fans to the most dominant ILB in the country.
Average/bad coaches continue to keep trying to jam square pegs into round holes and expecting it to fit. Good/Great HCs recognize the strengths of their players and adjust their approach to fit it.

This is an example of not being prepared. It drives me crazy.

Maybe if he engaged the team a bit more and acted like a players coach rather and a president, his guys would play a full game for him.

Here's a thought... how about scoring more TD's in the red zone.
Posted on 12/10/24 at 10:00 am to GumboPot
How about make a 12 team playoff in year 4 instead of playing in another who gives a shite bowl.

If I can only pick one....
A defense that can defend a dual-threat QB.

Be preparerd for games. LSU was not properly coached for USC, TAM and BAMA. .

Honestly, I'd say you better do everything you can to win that first game. Ill give ya one of those FSU games, maybe 2 since it was their best season in a decade... But that USC loss was unacceptable. They were trash.
I think at ND he could sit back and see what was going on and then implement his game plan and easily win. It's not like that anymore, especially in the SEC. You need to hit it hard and fast and trust your team to perform.
