If the vision for “college” sports to be semi-pro club teams connected with colleges?

The longer we go without a set of enforceable rules to keep competitive equality and to make things make sense financially for all parties, the harder it will be to make changes.

I love that LSU is just leaning into it in order to be competitive but I hope it doesn't go too far before we get some order.

I said this years ago. They will essentially be sports teams with college branding, but actual education requirements will be obsolete.

There's a team in the top tier Mexican soccer league that is like this. UNAM Pumas. It's basically like if an NFL team was connected to a college. That's probably where this is all heading.

The distinction is major conference football and men's basketball are multi-billion dollar businesses that stopped being amateur sports decades ago. The rest of the sports (i.e. "product lines") in the athletic departments aren't. Because of that there is very little incentive for the football/basketball players to unionize and negotiate a revenue sharing agreement. The reason is because they would have to share a portion of the revenue their sports generate with players of other sports who don't generate revenue. Particularly women's sports because of Title IX. Right now the current marketplace strongly favors the football and basketball players. They aren't giving that up to share with the others. The only way they would consider doing so is if they can ensure they get a large share of the revenue THEIR sports generate without any of that revenue going to the other sports.

The question will be can the schools, NCAA, Congress find a way to legally separate football and basketball from the rest of the sports. Truth be told, neither schools NOR the players want the players to be "employees"...for a whole litany of reasons.

I've posted on here several times that the NFL just needs to go ahead and establish an official SEMI PRO FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

Just rip the bandaid off. Pop the Cherry and be done with it.

College Football continues without all the BS.

Coming out of high school, pick one or the other and that's it. No flipping back and forth.

You have play at least 3 years of either to be considered for the NFL Draft.

No NIL in College. You get your full scholarship and s small cost of living stipend. You get a Degree and then go to Grad School or get a job. (Unless you're good enough to be NFL Drafted)
