The fact that some of you find LSU's offensive philosophy "acceptable" is laughable.
you are the one that's a joke. there is absolutely nothing wrong with LSU's offensive philosophy. the problem is that we can't find a QB to execute it. just think what we would be if there were a Tommy Hodson under the helm.
the high schools are screwing up the QB pool. sure, maybe one day we should give up and just put in the spread system with a system QB. if it happens you will know that the knowledgable QB is dead.

John Curtis runs an old school veer offense & destroys everyone so what's your point?

My point is that high school coaches don't have to change their systems so quarterbacks can be ready for college

you do know that we had a great line, a great running back, two senior receivers that are likely going to get a minimum of a half dozen pro bowl appearances between the two of them and a senior QB with an amazing arm that will likely spend a half dozen years or so in the NFL?...
1) Great Line - Maea Teuhema, Chidi Valentine-Okeke, Toby Weathersby, Donavaugh Campbell
2) Great Running Back - Leonard Fournette, Nick Brossette, David Ducre, Derrius Guice
3) Great Receivers (OBJ and Juice weren't seniors) - Travin Dural, Malachi Dupre, Trey Quinn, Tyron Johnson
4) QB with an Amazing Arm - Brandon Harris, Feliepe Franks

.. what are we going to do now that the talent isn't as good/experienced?

Josh Booty was just terrible. JD Booty was a very good quarterback... as a redshirt junior, and Brock Berlin did a very good job at Miami.... as a redshirt senior. Spread quarterbacks can do very well in pro-style college offenses... if given the proper amount of time to adjust to the game and learn the new style.

That's not what you insinuated in your first post. Secondly your interpretation of what a good college quarterback is sucks.

I love what we have going, maybe with saliva out of the way we won't have to whip the referees much longer !

Yea sweet move there paps! Way to pass the buck. Don't blame the HSs because we can't coach up a number of highly recruited QBs.

This thought would be better applied elsewhere.

I don't care for the 50 points a game and 6000 bazillion passes and no defense.
Ya know, the two are not mutually exclusive.....just a thought.

didn't we JUST have a 3000 yd passer, 2 1000 yd receivers, and 1000 yd rusher in the same season for the first time in SEC history?
ancient history brother....the stars aligned...perfect storm....call it what you will.....but it was the exception rather than the rule. We should be enjoying that dynamic every other year or so.

No he has shown he has an amazing arm.....he just needs to harness that "amazing" aspect into completions/TDs.

I agree, but I think time of possession is a little overrated--if you have the ball for 10 minutes and only come away with 3 points and the other team has it for 30 seconds and scores a touchdown, you lose. We need to at least have the ability to score from anywhere on the field even if we are to continue the ground and pound. A balanced offense is a proven winner.

I agree with this. The offense has to win & execute on 1st & 2nd down to keep 3rd downs manageable. If not, they open themselves up to blitzes & defensive line stunts on obvious passing situations. An offense won't be consistent playing with fire like that & it was a serious issue last season.
Maintaining balance isn't just about the run/ratio. It's all about being able to maintain the threat of the run or pass on every play. Deception is the key here & being able to break offensive tendencies will allow the offense to catch defenses guessing. This wasn't an option last season due to lack of experience at the skill positions.
The staff tried to make due with what they had to work with but that predictably hindered production a great deal. With more experience & a various amount of skill sets, they will be able to avoid having to be predictable in certain situations.
Also, taking advantage of "shot plays" downfield when they are there, needs to happen more especially when defenses match our outside receivers in man whether it's press or off man. Those are matchups that favor the offensive player & need to be exploited.

Would prefer a physical, run game, defensive minded coach...but it won't be five years. Les will retire, regardless, after 2016.

Sorry, I didn't mean to jump into this. Just responded to the original post. I wasn't aware it was an internet testosterone match.

No, you're good. At times in this thread things got off topic but that's just the Rant for you.
I love the threat of the down hill run game & hard nosed defense but I also like the the sharp crispness of a well oiled passing game too. I think you can manage to have all 3 & be successful doing so. Offensively, both are key because at times you have to be able to attack certain defenses differently. Some may play the run better than the pass or vice versa. The more versatile an offense is, the better.
