I'm taking it you mean pro style offense. We haven't won a NC with the current style of offense since Jimbo left. I say do whatever it takes to get him back and soon. LSU and Jimbo is a NC winning combination.

Why is wrong with having a good offense and good defense? Why it has to be one of them?

it's the philosophy behind it. what's the winning formula, ya know? you can't just hire a coach and say, "just be good"

I want a more modern pro style offense, and that's about it.

With the current recruiters on staff some lucky SOB is gonna fall into a gold mine. Personally I'd love a Patterson type, traditionally a D guy, but has evolved and now pits points up

patterson is a gimmick coach who is taking advantage of texas and the oklahoma schools being down... hell, the guy was in the mountain west three or four years ago.

If USC doesn't lose to a 8-6 Cal team in OT in 2003 then Saban’s Tigers get left out of the BCS Title game. See how easy that is?

If... college football is still hanging on to the up tempo style offense,

Like it or not, I don't see how the up tempo offense isn't the future of football. In five+ seasons from now, how many possible pro style, acceptable coaches could there really be to choose from?

I'd prefer to not run a spread...I mean Oregon hasn't won any titles, they're basically the Bills of college football.

more rule changes favoring the offense (like in 1995) will be needed before the spread will consistently win championships... and i don't see said rule changes happening, at least not anytime soon, the majority of football fans that prefer the spread are the johnny come lately fans who showed up when football started becoming more popular 15 years ago, the core fan base that has been watching for longer than fifteen years still prefers ball control offense and dominant defense or a more traditional pro style passing game with an opportunistic defense... the johnny come lately fans are kind of an unstable element, so i don't see any rule changes being made specifically for their enjoyment, when there's no telling if they'll even be around five to ten years from now ... also, defenses are getting better at defending the zone read and not giving up plays elsewhere, it's only a matter of time before the spread is forced to adapt and change or get left behind.

eh, you're comparing game outcomes to coaching and player personnel... sort of apples and oranges imo

The fact that some of you find LSU's offensive philosophy "acceptable" is laughable.

i find a run first philosophy acceptable.. however i find the lack of a competent passing game completely unacceptable...not asking for 450 passing yards and 6 TDs a game, but a guy who could pass for 225, 1.5 TDs/game, and limit the turnovers would be amazing... just enough to keep the SS out of the box on first and second down.

Not really. That is exactly what you just insinuated in your post.

You basically said without Kelvin Benjamin, Fisher doesn't win a national title. In other words, the outcome of a game is changed without a certain player available

no, i'm saying the team loses an element that helps it win... btw, nice emotes, my friend's 14 year old daughter likes to use that one too.

This could be said about any championship team that has ever won a title across all sports. If you take away a vital piece of any team, their chances of winning it all goes down.

I see you & your 14 year old share the same level of logic as well. I find that amusing.

No matter how you want to break it down, it's still a what if scenario that you have no clue as to how matters would turn out.

it was a comment on jimbo's abilities, you're trying to make my statement more than that... you just can't stop with the emotes can you?... you're like a little punk arse sissy boy with those emotes, huh?

I love Les and hope he stays for twenty years so this is only a hypothetical. If he retires five seasons from now and college football is still hanging on to the up tempo style offense, do you see LSU going for a Gus or Sumlin (Offense) or a Muschamp (Defense) style coach? I would prefer for LSU to remain the same in its approach which is a run by committee and smash mouth aggressive defense team.

Coach O all day long.
