The field overall will be tougher than ever, With MLB not soaking up talent the college teams will be deeper and stronger. The field in Omaha should be elite.

Watch Woodward’s interview with Jacques Ducet. PM isn’t going anywhere unless he chooses to retire.

Weekend rotation is great but other than that I don’t think this is going to be one of Paul’s better teams. Going to struggle to hit the ball and Paul is saying the defense is lacking.

2017 already feels like an eternity ago. Maineri is good as gone with another poor year. Probably in the best interest of both parties as well.

He's complacent like Les was. Time to part ways.

Mainieri's successor should have been here already.

His name is Jim Schlossnagle, the TCU coach.
Five trips to College World Series.
Knows the area, was assistant at Tulane for eight seasons.
And he's 13 years younger than PM.

Schlossnagle hasn’t done shite since Vitello’s recruits left.

We probably make Omaha this year though, so should he keep his job in that case?

You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about. Vitello left after 2013, TCU went to the next FOUR consecutive College World Series.
The 2015 TCU team beat LSU’s butt twice in Omaha, and in 2017 they actually beat Florida once, which is more than the Tigers can say.

When Vitello left, Schlossnagle replaced him with Bill Mosiello, who has been even better. No less than Mike Trout credits Mosiello with helping him develop when Mosiello coached him at Double-A Arkansas.

Bottom line: Schlossnagle has done more with less at TCU than Mainieri, who has been given EVERYTHING in Baton Rouge.

Mississippi State was ready to hire Schlossnagle two years ago, but Schlossnagle visited Starkville and turned it down.

I hear Blake dean is a major a-hole. Take it from a friend of mine who’s son played for UNO and graduated.

I never heard that, but I know one of Dean's LSU teammates, who liked Dean, but he said Dean is lazy. In fact, in Dean's first year in the minors, the other player told me he won't go anywhere because he's lazy as hell. Not a trait you want in a coach.

If LSU were to get rid of CPM or he retires the next coach should be Tony Vitello. He’s the next great coach in the sport.

Thank you for proving my point. If Tony Vitello left after 2013, it means his last batch of recruits would have played from 14-17, that 4 year CWS run.

And no, Bill Mosiello was not the recruiting coordinator that replaced Vitello (which is relevant, since I referenced Vitello's recruits, not him as a hitting coach). That was (and still is) Kirk Saarloos.

Since he left there, Vitello went on to build the roster that took Arkansas to the CWS finals.

When he left there to go to Tennessee, he bolstered an existing recruiting class that was handed to him with late pop-up LHP from LSU's back yard and turned him in to the first guy to make the majors from the 2020 draft. Garrett Crochet from Ocean Springs, MS.

Schlossnagle has not again seen the same type of success since losing the recruits Vitello got to campus. And he's never seen the levels of success our current coach has. Even in a softer conference.

So you would fire mainieri, who went 32-28 in conference with a regional and super regional in the last two years for a guy who went 21-26 in the big 12 the last 2 years with built in financial aid advantages at tcu?

It doesn’t matter anyway. He’s not leaving TCU for LSU. No established coach at the top programs are leaving for LSU. Baseball coaches think differently than the other major sport. They care more about stability over money and LSU is the only school that would even think about firing you for not winning enough in Omaha.

I love those expectations for LSU and don’t want them to stop but it is always going to make it tough for you to get an established coach. You are either going to have to go up and comer route or a coach that does ok at a northern school that is looking to make the next step like you did getting Maineiri from Notre Dame.

I think there are plenty of good options, people here are just terrible about finding them though

For sure there are plenty of talented coaches LSU could get but it won’t be anyone that people wanting CPM to be fired would name. They only name the 5 coaches they know and would actually be upset when LSU hires a Tony Vitello, Matt Riser, Greg Lovelady, or Matt Deggs who would be good coaches to hire but most people will think LSU is settling.
