Would be nice to see the NCAAF or the LSU Football program pony up some money for insurance policies.
They do actually

Can you provide me with an example when the NCAAF or the LSU Football program paid money out of their own pocket to insure a potential 1st round draft pick?

Playoff bowl game - chance for real championship
All other bowl games - meaningless
If your definition of meaningless is based on winning the championship, then there are a lot of regular season games that should be skipped.
LSU is playing in the biggest bowl game there is outsid of the playoffs. They are playing a top 10 team. Winning probably sets LSU up to be a top 6 team heading into next year. And it gives LSU something else to sell to recruits for the spring signing period.
Calling this game meaningless in order to justify the players sitting out is rationalization at its best.

Exactly.
Playing a top-ten appointment in the Fiesta Bowl is meaningless, but playing rent-a-win Rice in November after LSU was out of contention is important?
Greedy and everyone else can skip out on the bowl game if that’s what he wants to do, but let’s not pretend like this is entirely logically sound.

Well, they do have to play in some games to build/uphold their draft status.

Are you saying playing against A&M and Rice were needed to build/uphold their draft status but playing in the bowl game isn’t needed? Is that your position?
These players deciding not to play is a trend that is only going to get worse. It threatens the health of college football. And the fans are right to be unhappy with players bowing out when the season isn’t over.
What the right solution is, is a different conversation. But pretending the players sitting out isn’t a big deal is ridiculous.

Greedy Williams, Bosa and the like we’re going in the first round if they never played a snap this year. The NFL doesn’t care about performance at the collegiate level if you’re an elite talent.

If that becomes a trend it will be the end of college football

There was still an opportunity to make the playoff until the very last game wasn't there?
There needs to be some degree of reform in college football anyway. No use in fighting it IMO.

Wouldn’t Greedy still have a 2 year old daughter whether LSU was in the playoffs or not? You can’t expect a man with a daughter to play in the college football postseason.

Big Ed is suspended/ineligible to play in bowl game according to a few ppl on here so I doubt it would make a difference as far as he goes....

Look at Bosa at OSU
Not that I disagree with the premise that players sitting out bowl games, meaningless or not, will only continue to increase, but Bosa had a significant abdominal injury that he had to properly heal and rehab from.

Yea they would play. I guess you can't get hurt in the playoffs

Easy to say when its not your multi million dollar contract on the table.

people on here acting like it is just a given that they would play, when really, who knows what they would do. Like some one said, they could get injured just as easily in a playoff game as any bowl game. Hard to say if they would take that risk of hurting their monetary value as they see it. Like so many posters have been saying, they have to look out for what is best for them and their families.

It’s about NFL and $ It’s the NFL minor league
it does seem to be trending that way. I guess they would have to discuss with their agents the ramifications of sitting out a playoff game on their draft position. Some NFL teams might take it as a negative sign that they would chose not to play, while for other teams it might not be a consideration.

As much as I hate how the MLB draft affects our baseball signees, I like that set up better than losing players to the NFL after/ during their 3rd year. NCAA Baseball is more of a student athlete trying to make the big leagues while NCAA football is more like NFL players trying to stay healthy in college football long enough to sign their NFL contract. Can’t speak for everyone but the current trend is causing my GAF to drop significantly!
