The only rival that makes sense is Ole Piss.

I wish we could just stick with Arkansas. Only two teams in the conference who don't have a traditional opponent on Thanksgiving weekend. I don't see what was wrong with that series.

Oklahoma and Missouri also do not. Texas is the logical rival for Oklahoma and Arkansas is the default for Missouri. That leaves LSU-A&M.

I think Texas has agreed to continue playing Texas Tech OOC after they join. I don’t think they would ever move the RRR from state fair weekend. That would leave Tech for Texas on Thanksgiving weekend, playing a non conference a la Florida/FSU and SC/Clemson.

Well, you might as well start blowing the gasket now.
There is no way LSU is not matched up with Texas A&M as an annual rival.
Texas will get Oklahoma as part of the deal to bring them into the conference. That leaves the Aggies with us.

I f there is only one - this has to be the choice.
period.

Makes no sense. If they go with 1 permanent, A&M’s has to be Texas. Not a chance it won’t be.
LSU would get Arkansas in this scenario. I have a hard time seeing Arkansas paired with Mizzou permanently

The question at hand is what ONE rival each team will have if there is only one permanent opponent. I wasn’t suggesting that Texas-Oklahoma would move to Thanksgiving. I was only pointing out that not all conference teams had a Thanksgiving rivalry. That weekend is not going to dictate the one rival.

There is zero recruiting advantage to us playing ARK as a permanent every year on Tgiving weekend. It is a huge boost to them bec they recruit Louisiana heavily. They get all of the juice from keeping that game. We get zilch out of it.

That’s completely wrong. If there’s one certainty about this move, it’s that Texas and Oklahoma will continue to play annually. If there is only one permanent opponent, they will be paired. A&M may wish for Texas, but they won’t get them in that scenario

Oklahoma/Okie St and Mizzou/KU. Eventually, hurt feelings are going to subside and those games are gonna get played.
Red River is gonna remain but it isn't that weekend. Texas and A&M are eventually going to get back to playing on Thanksgiving.

The bigger rival for A&M would be Texas and it’s not even close.
But Texas has a bigger rivalry with Oklahoma and that is not even close from the perspective of Texas (or the rest of the world).
Unfortunately, I am afraid some things may dictate LSU A&M or LSU Arkansas
Here is what the single permanent opponent would probably look like.
Virtually 100% guaranteed:
Alabama-Auburn
Florida-Georgia
Miss T.-Ole Miss
Texas-Oklahoma
Very likely matchups
Tennessee-Vandy
South Carolina-Kentucky
Not sure how these 4 will go
LSU, Arkansas, Missouri, aTm
Suspect it will be
LSU-aTm
Mizzou-Arkansas
But I could see them swapping aTm & Arkansas.

A&M would throw an absolute shitfit if they got forced into a permanent with Mizzou. I bet it stays the way you originally typed it.

I forgot about Oklahoma in this picture

Pretty sure there was a good chance of this match up in this past year’s liberty bowl but one of the two sides refused to play. Want to say it was mizzou

They're scheduled to play in 25,26.

Texas and "Little Brother" Aggie/Aggy should absolutely be paired together. It's only natural.
That leaves LSU with either Arkansas or Oklahoma. I say they'll put Oklahoma with Missouri and jam cram LSU with the Razorbacks. (Just keep that mf'ing game on Saturday Night and away from that god-awful Black Friday afternoon time slot)
Who knows, maybe the SEC does something totally unexpected and pairs LSU with Oklahoma to close. The Sooners would be an upgrade football wise over A&M and Arkansas, even though it's not traditional.
