He did so much for the program and the state at the time. Greatest Tiger I've seen.

As great as he was, there was a three-game stretch when he rode the pine.

ETA: Check the stat book, the Diesel took his playing time until he broke his leg.

Cecil Collins was just spectacular. He, Faulk and Mealey were all 3 different backs. But, if I had to pick based on talent, I'm taking Collins. That game he had against Auburn was just insane.

Still my favorite tiger. He wasn't Bo or Herschel, but for my $, greatest APB of the modern SEC era. Nothing he couldn't do with the ball in his hands. Would love to meet him one day.

I wish the kids could’ve seen Erik Andolsek.

Faulk was injured at the time.

B.S. - check the injury report ... Cecil ONLY started 3 games ahead of Faulk because #3 pulled a hammy vs. UTEP which was the 1st game of the season. Faulk was not 100% thus he sat out vs. MSU and AUB. Once Faulk got healthy, he got the start ahead of Cecil @ Vanderbilt. Cecil breaks his leg early in the 2Q and the rest is history

Shook Faulks hand at the Super Bowl in Houston. Great guy!

That had to be the most talented running backs room in LSU history considering those three and Tommy Banks in there too.

The biggest thing for Faulk is he committed to LSU when there wasn't a whole lot to talk about. Was all pride. Was true to his state. He built the fence with Dinardo.

Faulk and Guice had similar running styles. Like Faulk, I think Guice will have a 10-12 year pro career and you don't see that in this NFL era.

Hammy may have been the issue, but Cecil had indeed come in with a bang and I seem to remember there was more to it than Faulk just being injured. I don’t think Gerry was taking carries away from Cecil if not for the broken leg.

Collins and Fournette also had similar styles if memory serves. Obviously Fournette has a MUCH bigger sample size.

I remember when he committed. It was news in Louisiana and there were hundreds of people at his announcement press conference and the state was a buzz!

I agree. When Faulk committed he 'saved' the program. These kids now a days can't understand that. It was so much more than just getting a big recruit.
