If there was ever a situation in all of college sports that gave a coach a bigger competitive advantage than Nick Saban HAD at Alabama, I would love to watch the 30 for 30 on it!

Jay gets full credit for winning National Championships in 23 & 25. He also deserves kudos and accolades for those achievements.

Jay is the highest paid coach in college baseball. I’m going to repeat something our current head football coach recently said. “You aren’t getting paid for what you’ve done in the past. You are getting paid to achieve the expectations given you currently.

No one expects Jay, or anyone else to win back to back championships. But…. People do expect a team every year that plays fundamentally sound, is highly competitive, and is one of the top 5 teams in the SEC. This current team is none of these.

When you win 2 titles in the short time you are there, you get the benefit of the doubt and rightfully so.

Right. The roster turnover and transfer portal are extremely difficult to manage. And No one has done it better than Jay has regardless of 2026 LSU

How much does actual coaching even matter in any sport besides football now?(and it matters less there than ever)

LSU baseball is going to go from title winner to maybe bottom of the sec on one year

LSU tennis went from 0-13 in sec in tennis to #5 nationally on one year

In these sports it’s just which coach can get the best players. The actual coaching is a complete crapshoot.

Are you developing? Have a system?

It matters, just in a different capacity than it used to.

the marriage between winning and talent has not changed at all.

developing / system does not diminish the need for talent to win

He’s getting the team ready for next year; you don’t win back to back natties after losing the top 3 pitchers in the country and having to rely on true freshmen

Why were we ranked 2nd in the country then if we "lost the top 3 pitchers in the country"?

He needs to take some of the blame.

It feels like what you are saying is if they win it's because of the Coach. If we lose, it's because of the players.

Another reason to give him the benefit of the doubt is correct me if I’m wrong, he’s the only coach at LSU that has won multiple championships in the last 20 years.

Why does everyone shite on Ed O? Idc how much help he had in 2019.. He gave us some good years. Much better years than Brian Kelly did.

He is getting this team ready for this year, not next. You have one returning starter to their position from last year in Milam, 2 if you include Brown but he was not a full time starter and rarely saw any action agains lefties. You lost all 3 weekend guys... Pretty much a new team.

First off, Jay would never take "a year off"

a “year off” and an “off year” do not mean the same thing.

a “year off” is not even trying and just coasting along.

an “off year” is when you still busting your arse, but your moves just don’t seem to work out at as high of a rate as they have in past.
