That being said the overthrows were definitely an issue. Maybe the footwork issue Kelly & Denbrock have mentioned multiple times was one of the primary causes. If he's gotten that under control he can be very, very good here. It's likely that we'll see.

I said this a month ago and got downvoted to death. His footwork is just not very good. Explains a LOT of the overthrows and inaccuracy. His intermediate throws were garbage his last year.

But fortunately that's coachable and can be fixed quickly. Cant coach his speed or arm strength...which both are impressive.

Not a good passer but completed 65.4% of his passes?

Watch the film. BIG majority of his passes were less than 5 yards. His 10-15 yard throws were wildly inaccurate. Footwork. Coach K can fix this and get it right.

The coaches have even talked about his footwork all camp long. That’s where your accuracy comes from and his badly needed to be fixed. Hopefully they’ve done this and Daniels is now a much more polished product.

Kelly likes running QBs... look at COOK with the Saints even if they cant pass really well

Not sure what that has to do with my post mentioning he needs to cut down on the number of runs. I didn't say he shouldn't run at all. Kelly likes statues too (Coan last year). He's said he's going to start whoever does the best job of getting the ball into the hands of the playmakers. I think both of these guys can do that, but if you think it's a good idea to have your starting QB with Daniels' frame running 10+ times a game against SEC defenses, more power to you. In my opinion, if our starting QB is having to take off 10+ times a game with the insane amount of talent our skill guys have, that means our OL is an abject disaster.

Any why I am excited to see the improvement. Dude is a stud and can be dangerous if he fixes his footwork.

He completed 59% his last 5 games and threw for 129 yards per game. He not only regressed from one year to the next but that regression accelerated as the year went on last season. The more DCs had film on him the less effective he became.

He has near top level running ability for a QB. I wouldn’t put him in Vick or Vince Young’s class yet but he’s got rare potential in that area. I agree with you it’s his footwork in the passing game that’s hindered him most. He’s also had some sloppiness with handoffs and handling snaps, the detail portion of playing QB. That’s something coaching can address, maybe since he was a starter as a freshman for ASU they gave him too much leeway or maybe Hill and Edwards just didn’t do a good job with him period. If he wins the job at least we’ll know what signs to look for. It’ll be easy to tell early on if he’s conquered the issues he’s had in the past and realized his talent.

Look at these QB stats:
219/379
57.80% Comp
2,894TOT YDS
13 Games/ 222 yds per game

Stats for a QB named Joe Burrow-2018

Not saying Daniels will be a Joe Burrow, but give these coach's an opportunity to NAME a starting QB before we project doom and gloom. We are not dealing with a head coaching mindset that is ill prepared. Give the new regime a chance.

It’s not doom and gloom it’s just what happened last season. You guys have to be able to separate fact from the hope that he’s improved and recognize where the improvement needs to come from. You can’t do that if you keep denying and excusing past performance. Burrow put up those stats in the SEC, he had no issues with command of the offense and when called on he was able to win games for us at the end. He also improved as the year went on culminating with the big bowl game. Daniels last season went in the exact opposite direction.

No problem.
If he is a bad as you and others are hoping, there is no way he will start for LSU.
Fortunately, in nine days we will know the facts.
I suspect he and Nuss will make us proud.

Is it possible that he’s better today than he was 2 or 3yrs ago? I doubt he’d be starting if Kelly doesn’t believe that he can effectively run our offense. IDGAF about his stats as long as we win the games.

Personally I wish they would make all QBs stay behind the line of scrimmage while evaluating and make the decision solely based on the passing game.

Then the QB run can be lagniappe. Falling in love with an electric athlete at QB is a mistake I’ve seen so many times I’ve lost count.

Unless you can run THROUGH people like Tebow, Cam, and sort of Dak, SEC defenses know how to maintain leverage and teacup fast quarterbacks.
