Pre-Burrow wasn’t a confidence or talent deficit, it was an idiotic coach stifling any chance at the forward pass that we had. We dealt with 10 men boxes for the better half of a decade and still ran it down most team’s throat.

I think it will be more of a boom or bust/high risk - high reward type defense. We know that Baker likes to play a very aggressive style. So I'm thinking we see a lot of negative plays (sacks, TFLs) that get offenses behind the sticks, but also prone to giving up the big play.

shite man, this was our defense last year. Except without the aggressive style or the negative plays or the TFLs or the sacks

I will gladly take the occasional big play if the defense is also making big plays of their own

Kelly is still the coach. Not a natty champ type coach.

There would/should be defensive improvements but “2-3 game swing” is a sky-high assumption.

Your comment means you expect LSU will be undefeated this season with a thin D-line and inexperienced defensive backs.

Is that what you’re expecting?

If the corners don’t line up 10 yards from the line of scrimmage and can tackle they will be a top 50 defense.

fully expect the scheme to be worlds better than the previous season

Not likely. The knock against House was that in spite of having great schemes he could not get the kids to execute them. In short, it was the teaching and team building skills he lacked. House needs to be an analyst not a DC. At least this was the rumored feedback from Kelly.

Uh he took Damone Clark who was terrible, not decent, to being one of the best LB in the country.

This is baseless comment. What did you say about Ed Orgeron? What about Les Miles? We have more reason to believe Kelly can than either of those two. He needs to shore up the d-line and DBs then we'll see.

Coaching alone should provide a significant boost to the entire unit. I also believe the DL will be much better due to having to go against our elite OL all camp. As they say, a rising tide raises all ships.

I agree. Missou’s defense was ranked 113th in the country in 2021. Baker goes there and the defense improves to 56th. Last year they were ranked 25th. I think he’ll do a good job, but he’ll have his hands full this year. Just having an actual DL coach is going to be huge as well.

We won’t be a top defense by any means but we will at least be average which will get us into the playoff I believe. Nuss is going to show out this year behind the best OL in college football.
