Another W.
MOV was loser than it should have been due to bringing in bench warmers in the last few minutes.
The SEC may suck, but LSU has won all of its conference games since losing the first to Bama. Average MOV against SEC opponents in LSU's wins is huge.
Considering all of that, I'd say LSU is a top 25 team as long as it stays healthy. Depth is obviously a big concern. Barring any significant injuries to the starters, I expect this team to get an 8-6 seed in The Dance and win 1-2 games. With a little luck and preferable matchups (no significant size disadvantages), it wouldn't too much surprise me if this team made the Sweet 16.
This team still lacks a marquee win, but there's nothing that can change that now. Looking back at the OCC losses, this team would probably beat A&M now, and Xavier and Utah are obviously top 10 teams.
It's still early, so anything could happen, especially if any of the starters miss any significant time on the court. However, at this point, LSU is much better than outsiders would like to admit.

Les inherited shitloads of talent from the previous coach and won big. We don't need to say that the jury is out on Johnson because he inherited a veteran team that did not win. Johnson was a good coach before he got to lsu.

Staight up TJ is the man. I'd say with Brady coaching this team we are 10-13 or something like that. TJ preaches tough D and timely shooting. He encourages the kids to keep shooting and he doesn't put up with BS. Terry Martin whining about playing time. How about you sit for 4 games and think about it. That sends a message right away.
The guy was the Pac 10 coach of the year last year and Stanford flat out let him walk. Amazing. Good for us.

True...but IMO its easier to replace 5 players from one team when you have 85+ players on the team...

I wasn't so much as referring to that the jury is still out on Johnson because he is losing 5 seniors, it was more of saying he's losing damn near all his experienced players and should be given time to replace them with his underclassman and new recruits...
I'm already convinced he's a good coach that knows what he's doing...that's why I said give him time to replace his vets he's losing...

What did he do at Stanford?? enough said.
Same with Nevada.
Standing Postseason
Nevada (Big West) (1999–2000)
1999-2000 Nevada 9-20 6-10 T-3rd (East)
Nevada (WAC) (2000–2004)
2000-2001 Nevada 10-18 3-13 9th
2001-2002 Nevada 17-13 9-9 T-5th
2002-2003 Nevada 18-14 10-6 T-3rd NIT First Round
2003-2004 Nevada 25-9 13-5 T-1st NCAA Sweet 16
Nevada: 79-74
Stanford (Pac-10) (2004–2008)
2004-2005 Stanford 18-13 11-7 T-3rd NCAA First Round
2005-2006 Stanford 16-14 11-7 T-4th NIT Second Round
2006-2007 Stanford 18-13 10-8 6th NCAA First Round
2007-2008 Stanford 28-8 13-5 2nd NCAA Sweet 16
Stanford: 80-48 45-27
He's done a fantastic job so far. I don't think Brady would have had this type success.
Next year is going to be much tougher though. Expect them to fall back a bit.

Seriously though, Nevada improved from season to season and made posteason his last 2 seasons including Sweet 16. Stanford made the postseason 4 straight years and had a winning record in conference and overall.
I'm pretty sure if he thought Stanford could become elite every year, he may have stayed there.

Bruce Pearl was the man as long as he had Lofton to bail him out at crunch time. Lofton is gone and Pearl has lost some sparkle.
Pearl's team is just VERY young. These same Vols will be crushing people next year.

Yes they did. But do you disagree that they were ever more than just mediocre in everything but 2004?

They were pretty darn good prior to his taking over. I'd say 10 straight 20 win seasons is basis for anyone to believe that team is capable of being one of the tops in the country.
I doubt him thinking Stanford couldn't be elite is why he left. Money is likely the reason he made a change.

Stanford's athletic department is $9 million in debt and is notorious for lowballing coaches even when they are making money. At LSU he is probably getting paid significantly more with the cost of living being way lower and doesn't have any restrictions on who he can recruit...it might look like a lateral or downward move, but it makes sense

The wheels are quickly falling off of the Bruce Pearl express. He is an overrated media magnet who rode Chris Lofton and Jajuan Smmith and got lucky with Tyler Smith gaining instant eligibility last season.
Posted on 2/8/09 at 4:10 pm to tiger20
T20, while I agree Pearl is slightly overrated, and needs to strengthen his program's defensive coaching and mental toughness, should he and Tenn ever aspire to be more than a Sweet 16 type program and/or free-wheeling + fast-break + arc type..
You've been assailing him since he arrived there, but his lifetime numbers, Vol marks, and postseason achievements have continually proved you wrong..
With his recruiting, plus improved facilities, and Vol fans now showing up for the mens games too again en-masse not since practically The Ernie and Bernie Show, it's close proximity to the Carolinas and like KY with the SEC's northernmost proximity to the Midwest Metros,etc..
Tenn Hoops will remain a player in a mediocre SEC.

How many title has he won in a major conference.
How many games did he win against major conference opponents in the NCAA tournament the last three seasons. Yeah, I have been assailing since he got to Tennessee. He has done a good job of making himself a media darling and it has paid off, but the bloom is quickly fading from the rose.

Why do you HATE PEARL SO MUCH????
Posted on 2/8/09 at 4:35 pm to dukke v
I don't hate Pearl. I strongly oppose the media adulation he has rceived while winning only one SEC title and having beaten only one team from a major conference in NCAA tournament play.
The only thing remotely similar occurred in this last presidential election.
