there is much exuberance being exhibited on this board concerning our offense this year. imo, yes it will be much improved. but no matter what some visualize, les miles and cam Cameron are not spread offense architects.
I think the offense of '13 will be emulated with a few more twists. that is pretty much ground and pound with 3rd down passing. since we don't have the incredible catching ability of OBJ and Landry we'll have to mix it up more. sure, occasionally we'll throw on first or second down but no air war is happening.
sorry.
Pop a Viagra and go have some fun

How'd that catching ability help OBJ in game saving punt catches? OBJ had plenty of dropped passes in college, especially in sophomore year.
Also, how do we know we don't have comparable catching ability?

If it's emulated with the same type of success and this defense performs as it's expected to, we're going to da 'ship.
At least we'll have that as consolation if we don't hang 4 bazzioliondy on McNeese.

We will be Top 5 in the nation in yards per completion... if we can consistently complete passes... WATCH OUT.

You mean in the game where he was exceptional outside of 1 play, and caught everything thrown his way? He put up 118 yards that game.
How many points did we score in that game? How many blown coverages? 41 points...

He had very, very few in 2013. Crazy how young players can work and get better.

Jarvis Landry and Odell had some of the best hands in NFL as rookies. They were exceptional talents

Les often allowed Crowton to run elements of the spread offense, especially when he had tremendous weapons in 2007. If the players can perform, he will go 3 and 4 wides with a one-back set depending on circumstance; maybe even the pistol. Those are elements of the spread. You do need a mobile QB to effieciently run the spread as blocking schemes are depleted by play design, hence you didn't see it much if any with Mett. Harris and Jennings both have spread backgrounds so it's likely that we'll see some of it. If they execute well, we could see it often.

frick yeah, that was a great offense.
damn right. '13 just had a terrible defense most of the year

I will only be disappointed if there isn't better balance. I don't want to throw 50 times a game.

We ran plenty of spread formations with mett as QB. You can run the spread with a statue at QB
Tom Brady and the Pats run a lot of spread formations
Manning loves to go the spread when he wants to set the pace and go no huddle
Jason White won the Heisman trophy in 2003 with a spread offense and zero knees

I'll predict 230 yards passing and 290 yards rushing.
It moved
Don't care if it's McNeese, I'd be ecstatic with those numbers.

Honestly don't see anything wrong with running spread that features power.

I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised at what we have in the hands dept this year... If the ball gets there we will be ok.
Also I think you will see more distribution of passes to the backs and TE's this year than in the past because they all are good receivers.

After 10 seasons, we know Miles. He rarely uses these rent a win OOC games as a glorified practice. The script for this one will be the same as any other....use his way bigger offensive line and running backs to run all over them. They'll win easily but it won' take much skill other than being bigger and faster.
I think even with the low caliber of opponent, it makes sense to get your young QB as much in game experience as possible. Use the opportunity to get him in a rhythm with his receivers, used to calling different plays, making reads. Instead of have him hand of 40 times.
Unfortunately I think they're going to slow play Harris and try to hide him as much as possible this season. Miles has a big, solid o-line and a stable of elite runningbacks. Its easy to see the game plan being just to try to run over everyone rather than try to develop Harris into an above average player. That's unfortunate because there will be a time when the run game gets shut down and you can't hide Harris anymore. Will he be ready?
